this is my first gtr... and what this car was needing was more than i could do in my garage...
this car is also left hand drive... so it isnt as straight forward as a normal gtr

i put out the $$$$ to have "the proffesionals" lace this project together

im just trying to find out if whitehead has even worked on many gtr's before....
im getting the impression that they haven't

Now you see that you and they are all humans, this is the exact reason I'd never go to a dealer, you might think "they know everything about my car" when the truth is they have to read the service guide like anyone else

The tricky bit is when you get into high performance stuff, you'll find people here and many other quality forums have a ton of real world experience dealing with your exact vehicle and setup... unless your mechanics hang out on these forums, read all the niggles people have, all the pros/cons to doing everything, there is no chance the shop will know more than you potentially can know yourself

You'd be better off renting shop space, pay them $500 a week for the hoist, bring your own tools and go crazy.. I've done that kind of arrangement quite a few times, it's great, they make money doing nothing, you get to borrow special tools you'd never buy

i have rented a shop in the past... i had my own hoist for 2 years

i dont have the time anymore to do a big job... and i just wanted the car to be done by someone who worked on this car all the time

that was my intention any way...

in the end it was just a total shady experience....

I had a bunch of work done to my car at RS tuning...It took much longer than expected due to multiple issues uncovered durring my upgrades. (not rs tunings fault)

Overall the quailty of the work was excellent.

Give Radek a call he will get you sorted!

whitehead used Radek from rs tuning on my car ....

the car is idleing at 16.5 on my wideband

and under boost rangeing from 10.5-13.8

i heard anything above 11.5 is bad under boost
and anything above 14 on idle is bad

also the car is idleing at 1200-1500 rpm
the car will be going back to him soon,

were you able to see your gtr on the dyno dynamics rolling road when it was being tested??

            because apparently im not allowed

From my understanding this vehicle was purchased with a blown engine, and white head did alot of work to give you a running car.

I normally would not accept a car like this to even work on or tune as a left hand drive swapped car with the whole electrical system being mucked with is generally going to have issues as its not original.

with that being said mike at whitehead is a standup guy and will help you with whatever you need, Personally going on the forum and complaining about something that may not be understood 100% is very unprofessional.

You also have to understand that there are components on this car that are 20+ years old like the ignition system. which i highly suggest you get changed as higher boost levels put a larger demand on the ignition system.

Shop i'd suggest going to is PUR auto for tuning , ask for stan - he hasnt tuned mine but i have dealt with Vlad and stan and they are friendly , full of advice and do alot of work on skylines..

If you havent had your car tuned by vlad or stan than how can you recommend them to tune a car. Please ask them how many years of tuning experience they have.

                Dear radek,
We're not trying to talk trash about you or your business here. Whatever youre asking about how long we've been tuning for is really irrelevant. Im gonna try to stay as polite as possible and not comment on that. If you have any issues with us or Pur Auto, please keep it to yourself and we will do the same.
                Thank you

                  to Radek,

your right, i bought this car with a bad knock, and thats the reason it went to whitehead.
the guy i bought the car from said to take the car to pur auto... because he liked/respected them.. seems like many people do

i chose whitehead after talking with mike over the phone,

the damaged engine was swapped out,

the issue im having is how many times this car is taking to make right... there are way to many issues

im sure he directs a lot of business your way and is good for business.... but this is my dream car and im going to great length to make this car something bad ass

one of my friends who has a gtr really thinks your the best tuner for the rb26dett and others too i could only imagine

i seen that you had a gtr that you raced around the track at cayuga this year... great to see a real suby destroyer in action

mike and i made a plan to make this car have 450 whp....
can you tell me what my car still needs after investing close to 15k.... on how to get 450whp? or at least 425hp?
and for the car to be set up properly?

after i got it back the last time... it cuts out completely on on/off ramps under boost, it sputters under high boost, the wideband is showing the car running lean, its idleing at 1500-1600rpms all the time now and if its wet outside the car doesnt start.....this isnt acceptable

point zero in waterloo looked over the car and say its very unsafe to run the car the way its set up currently

i asked to see this car on your dyno after its fixed... to watch it hit the hp that im told it has...
the reason is.... Nobody believes its over 350 whp...

im frustrated... NOT WITH YOU... just at the situation im in with this project...

can i talk to you about my car??

im very intersted on completing this build properly so this rb will last me as long as possible

                  Luke

                    Hey Radek

As far as Pur Auto go I have been there and bought parts , listened to their advice and discussed various options/scenarios with them. I have been building and tuning engines for longer than most people on this forum have been alive . I used to be a certified Auto technician / MOT tester back in the day in England and have a ton of experience myself. When i speak to a tuner I can tell by what they say as to whether they understand enough to do the job.

When i take a car to someone to tune it's not because I don't understand the underlying principles of how to do , it's because I don't have the rolling road to do it on safely.

I also know several people that have been there , been tuned and had good results.

Picking a tuner to work on a car is always a crapshoot , every tuner in existence in Toronto will have someone that has something bad to say about them , and also others that say good - mostly because there is more than one way to skin a cat and tuning is no exception.

I will do most of the basic tune myself but will get a tuner to fine tune it . I didn't intend to see this thread turn into a pissing match between vendors that looks bad on everyone. If vendors have something they would like to discuss with each other use a phone and not the forums !

Hi Luke, I have spoken with mike from whitehead regarding your car yesterday, we are both on the same page that we want to help give you what you asked for, as that was the original intention and that is how the car left my dyno, it is very possible that some sensor or component has failed but im still putting my money on your ignition system.

Get your Car over to Whitehead and whatever assistance they require from me they will get to get you resolved.

You are right picking a tuner is very difficult, But in the tuning business time is everything the more time you spend tuning cars the more issues you are exposed to, and therefore you become better at what you do. especially if you learn from these problems.

There is a big difference between tinkering with cars and tuning them.

Anyone can tune a car, how long it lasts is a very different story,

                        Take care.

This should make any rb26 owner giggle. This is also my bad ass skyline

Car is rev limited to 10,200rpm fully built everything.

If whitehead makes their client happy as a result of this thread then this thread has served its purpose - coulnd't really ask for more than that.
