Brent ive done a bit of research on the gear box options out there, and the conclusion i have come to is keep popping stock boxes til you have a minimum 4-5k budget set aside for a gear set to suit your needs. There is no viable option out there atm that allows you to keep it manual, awd, and hold power for under 5k. caliber676 did a write up on a oem rebuild that is available but i still think just buying used boxes is the most cost effective route. Once you have a decent budget set aside id look at the getrag option if you want something that will hold mild power and be most comfortable on the street. keep in mind it wont hold stupid power or crazy abuse. if you want to be able to thrash on it a bit more ppg is the way to go. these are just the conclusions i have come to on my own take it with a grain of salt.

I had planned on doing the same "run stock boxes till I have 5k" but a ppg helical dog is running around $10k if you get the proper support mods with it. Then, if you want warranty from them, you can't do the install your self so shipping can get real expensive. When I quoted with shepherd transmissions, shipping to and from was $850 and customs was about $600 and labour around $600.
I'd stick with stock boxes if you can get em as cheap as $1000 and less.
On that note, which transfer case is the strongest and are the 32/33 then same?Black 1991 GTR. Serious garage stand mantle/parts car.

Thanks guys, I've decided ill use stock boxes and hopefully by next spring ill have the r34 getrag 6 speed. I'm only looking for a slight increase in performance/strength over stock and the six speed will be great for the street driving I like. I'm not looking to increase my power much, if at all anymore.

The Tcase won't break if you have an R32 or R33 transmission in front of it.
the R34 tcase is completely different inside, and won't attach to the earlier transmissions either. Not that that matters.
Be gentle with 3rd gear and it will live a long time. Shift into it hard and you may only get one or two shifts.1992 GTR - 2.7L, GT2871R's, forged bottom end, big valves, 270* cams, R34 getrag

Dragon, I am not sure how well a 2 speed will work with a 26, but liberty's gears makes an adapter for them.
they also make some drag transmissions for the 26 that you may like.1992 GTR - 2.7L, GT2871R's, forged bottom end, big valves, 270* cams, R34 getrag

The thought of losing OD for roadtrips is the only thing that is making it a hard decision. The beefed up Jatco is really looking good if I go the auto route, I still have some time (like years...lol) to make up my mind. To me it's getting to be a no brainer when you start to get really close to $10k, the OS88. I talked to OS Giken in Vegas for a very long time (even the Japanese rep) and the OS88 can go for 10+ years on the street (to about 50k km) before an inspection is warranted. They are quiet to drive and will take an absolute beating.
For you Nimble, the Getrag is quite perfect.
