With a proper tuned ECU 91 is fine as well as the ethanol blended 94. The reason everyone runs better on 91 then 94 is the ethanol blends need more volume for the same AFR. In other words 12.2 to 1 on 91 Shell converts to 12.8 to 1 on ethanol blends. What ever tuned ECU you have has a set injector pulsewidth based upon load rpm etc. This means that to run ethanol you need to have that tuned or be running an active tuned tuning ECU something with closed loop wideband support. If you don't you will be running lean with extra timing and the knock sensor is pulling tons of timing and putting you into the det map in the ecu. Ethanol is great for tuning with it you can make lots of power and it also suppresses detonation the vehicle just needs to be tuned for it.

I didn't read the thread, so I'm sorry if it's allready been mentioned, but if you want to boost your octane there are two chemicals to use.

      Toluene and Xylene.

both are toxic as hell, be careful handling them.

Toluene is 114 octane and Xylene is 117 octane. Buy whatever one is cheapest, do the math for your mixing, and don't mix it more than 50/50.

Anything more than 30% probably won't work well in the winter or for cold starts, either.

Did you not just read what i said above?
Gas rating are gas ratings. No if and or but. When the gas leaves the refinery it is 91 or greater.

Everyone says "crappy cali 91" but they do not mean that the gas is crappy. They are referring to the fact that you cannot get higher then 91 at any commercial station. So hence the crappy cali 91.

And stay away from xylene, it eats rubber very quickly and even more so when lines are getting dry and old.

Mcfly... dude.... did you read what I said?

On paper it's supposed to be 91, in reallity it's more like our 89 (87 was just me being a d1ck). I think they fudge the #'s a bit for the US market. I have found time and time again that American gas is CRAP. All of it, not just in Cali. I amazes me that guys can pull the power that they do out of US91. We are spoiled up here with our juice. Case in point is the Pump Gas Drags, most boosted cars can usually squeeze another 3-4% out of their cars using the 91 octane control fuel that Sunoco provides for all racers.

Don't believe the propaganda, I've found out the hard way.

In the past my old GTS-t was happier with Chevron 92 from Washington. Thought it was just me but I filled up there quite a lot and car always ran great...

My stock ECU will tend to run 2-5* more timing advance at WOT on american shell V-power 93 vs. canadian shell v-power 91.

My car seems to really enjoy US 93 compared to our 91. I've never been out west but my car has drank from most east and midwest states from florida to michigan.

I'm quite sure the west gets punished more than the east, US93 is VERY hard to come by in the western states. If stations are selling it out east it's most likely very close to what 93 is supposed to be (to appease the Detroit Muscle crowd). The treehugging western EPA methinks wants to keep Cali. (and everywhere else up and down the west coast) free from powerfull/poluting cars by keeping the octane down a little (do they still have California Emissions specific equip. on cars anymore?).

So a jump from Shell 91 to Shell 93 should give you those happy results with all things being equal.
