  • Opinion on XXR 522's.

I've just been cruising around the internet looking at wheels at stuff because i can never get enough and I came across the XXR 522. I know everyone says the sportmax wheels are gay and cheap and not JDM TYTE YO! but, i dont make much money and they're pretty nice for a decent wheel...
for the 18x9.5 +25 they are 142$ a wheel.. and the 17x9 they're 132$ a wheel. I think they're like a gullflame or origin labs DNA knock off.. but still pretty dope if you ask me.
    Check em out.

Why don't you look for some quality used wheels instead of buying brand new cheap wheels? The quality of materials will be far inferior and the finish won't last as long as a brand name wheel. I've owned both cheap and brand name wheels before and by far have been happier with the latter.

If you don't make much money, save and buy the right wheels the first time.

            It's your call.

But they're likely not going to last as long (finish wise). Might look cheap in person. And as a common trade-off they tend to weight a ton which takes your car a few pegs down the fun ladder.

Craigslist is your friend. As is revscene. There are ridiculous deals on even nice rims if you keep your eyes open. Especially ones with minor damage that you can get repaired relatively cheap.

If you can't afford, buy used good brand wheels.

I scored mine for 1/3 the new price and I am very happy with their look/quality/weight.

              mmmm Regamasters....

What's wrong with the one you were planning to paint (josh's?) ?

I guess it depends what your budget is. Maybe I will sell you mine. I want to change it up anyways.

                    hahaha. nice.

to op: theres really no point getting ballin wheels if the rest of your car isnt just as ballin to match, ie: if you have any mishimoto/megan racing/ whatever brand crap on your car, then you might as well get some knockoff wheels to go with.

and im not putting you down or anything, i dont even know what your car looks like. could be the most ballin thing in the world for all i know, but im just saying, get the appropriate wheels that match the rest of the quality of your car.

its not like a set of 18x10.5+12 TE37's will save a car from epic fail status if theres shitty ebay/knockoff stuff everywhere else through out the car.

                    just my opinion.

once again the people who haven't owned rotas post yet again

the pictures of those wheels broken were on a 500 whp honda that was at the nurburgring was it not? I'm sorry, if I was doing that kind of tracking with my car I would buy volk, HRE, work whatever. Until then, I don't care.

I don't need to own Rotas to know they are still quite inferior to brand name wheels in every way. I would rather save up and buy some wheels that have R&D behind them than a cheap copy of said wheel. People who buy rotas are simply people who don't save up for better wheels for whatever reason. Sportmaxx buyers fall into the same category. SSR/Wedsport/Volk/Work/Enkei/5zigen are all greater quality than Rota wheels and some (enkei and some work/wedsport/ssr) are not even expensive at all. I would rather spend an extra couple of hundred for quality wheels that will last longer and be worth more when i choose to sell them versus cheap wheels that are heavy and have a finish that won't last as long and have zero resale value.

Rota has improved their manufacturing methods and they are trying to appeal to a larger group of enthusiast by making more and better sizes. This however does not change the simple fact they are still cheap knockoffs.

If you want to uprade to better wheels, just find r32 gtr wheels. Same diameter but wider and lighter, and a darker finish. They also sit pretty much flush with the stock fenders without poking out obnoxiously requiring fender screwage. You can might be able to fit 255 MT drag radials on them too, and everyone will think you've got huge power.

Can you tell I link r32 gtr wheels? lol They're cheap, forged, really light, and look great after all these years. Some might scoff at 16" wheels, but hey, just lower it an inch or two.

I'd either buy forged volk's, or forged OEM's. I don't see the point in upgrading from a factory cast wheel thats pretty heavy for its size, to an aftermarket cast wheel thats probly going to be heavier than stock.

Plus I think the r32 gtr wheels are magnesium. "nice wheels dude", "yaeh man, they're forged magnesium

Magnesium is a soft and volatile metal in pure form.

You mean magnesium alloy, which is stiffer and lighter than aluminum alloys.

Anyways, good wheels can be found used for a great price. For example, Jakub scored his enkeis for a great price last summer then pimped them out by refinishing. Looked amazing and brand new for a fraction of its cost when new. Also, when he recently sold it, the buyer WON big time. He got refinished/near new wheels for a great price also!
