  • Question on cutting gts hood lip?

Has anyone done it? I have searched forever looking for more info on people who have cut the front lip off of their gts bonnets but found nothing.

Basically the lip on my gts has some rock chips on it and since I am also doing a fmic and a GTR bumper over the winter I figured I might as well cut the front lip off the bonnet too.

Ideally I would like to find an N1 gtr hood lip to cover the cut but have had no luck so far. I am just unsure as to how far down to cut etc...

Any insight would be much appreciated. If not I guess I will just have to cut it and maybe make a DIY for others! haha

I wouldn't recommend it! Yes it will look somewhat like a GTR hood but the weight is not the same (if that is a concern)

GTR Hoods are cheap nowadays that you can attain one for $350

Besides the cross bracing on the underbelly, it looks identical.. But yes, the weight is still there. Best option for that is to take the cut off wheel to the braces as well, just be careful not to burn the paint through!

i had a car with that done to it. Buy the lip and cut the wrap part off. Pretty good idea imo. Not sure why everyone with a GTS doesnt do it. GTS hoods look like dirt in a vagina.

Everytime someone opens my gts-t hood, they comment on its heft and I feel inadequate and cry myself to sleep that night.

                    Buy a gtr hood.

Totally agree!!!!! But if your a cheap ass. Cut it.

just noticed your in Lethy. Make a trip to 4Xtoys in coalhurst. Mikes cell is 403 330-6288. Should be a hood out there so you can buy one locally. Braden from JNS should also be able to hook you up with a lip if you decide to cut, again locally. Cheers!

Cut the cross bracing off underneath! Slowly and steadily use a die grinder with a cut off wheel to remove the secondary supports (theres an obvious size difference between primary braces and secondary).. With these removed it's nearly the same weight as the GTR hood, but hacked to shiattt.. Either way, no one can tell unless you're a hard parker and simply attend meets > drive the car.

It's a mans hood! Nothing like a good curl-to-military press every once and a while to get your testosterone pumpin!

                          No...

I owned both. The aluminum GTR one weighs less than 1/2 that of a cut steel hood.

Seriously marc, get some scales shots

hahaha, I SAID NEARLY DAMMIT! Close enough. Yea i'll admit, its not the same and it is hacked up. lol

PITA finding a proper color matched hood thats in relatively good shape though.. And paint is like 500-700$ for a good job.

But ya, steel hood and alum hood are night and day difference in weight. Unmistakable.
