  • R32 GTS-t vs R33 GTS25-t vs R32 GTS-4

    I tried to search in the discussion and tech sections of the GTS forum but could't find any threads like this surprisingly.
    Anyways I'm looking to purchase a Skyline in the next 5 years (not in a rush) and my eyes are set on the sub GT-R models. Reason being I want the car mint or close to mint, and most of the GT-R's are destroyed and raced to death. And the one's that aren't are $20,000 or more usually. I'm looking for something next to no modifications.

    So my eyes are on the:
    • R32 GTS-t / Type M
    • R32 GTS-4 (This is the rarest of the three chosen correct?)
    • R33 GTS25-t


    The car will NOT be a daily "tracker". More of a daily driver with maybe 5 track sessions each season.
    The car must be manual and not be be a sedan. It must be reliable in the fall/summer/spring months.

    From what been seeing from ads for over a year the most common out of the three shown is the R32 GTS-t / Type M or the R33 GTS25-t. I don't think I've ever seen a R32 GTS-4 on sale locally. I'm in the Toronto area.

    I'm just looking for a clean daily driver, reliable (is it possible to have reliable Skyline even in the winter lol?), with some umph when I need it. I'm looking to make around 300WHP or at least 250WHP which seems possible on all three of these cars. More difficult on the RB20DET equipped models. Why is this anyways?

    I won't drive it in the winter, more of a daily summer driver. Will be doing city and highway driving. Low end torque and top power for highway is most wanted. I have sat in most R32 and R33 GT-R's at Right Drive and the R33 feels like a boat in comparison to the R32. I don't enjoy larger sport cars, if I'm going to fling it around I'd rather have something small and lightweight you know?

    So what would you guys recommend of the three models?
    Personally I think a R33 GTS25-t fits my description except for the size, but if I can get a R32 GTS-t with enough highway and top end power I may sway more to that.

    To start, you are comparing three similar yet different cars. One is 2.0T RWD, one is 2.0T AWD and the last is 2.5T RWD.

    Not to mention difference in generation with the 32 and 33.

    With situations like this, it all comes down to your personal preference. At the end of the day you will be the one driving the car. All three cars are definitely capable of your horsepower goals with minor modifications.

      RB25DET is more power capable largely due to the extra 500cc displacement. I would say your best bet is to go with a clean r32 gtst if you can find one. My r32 gtst has been my dd for almost 5 years and the only things I've ever had to replace are the alternator and fuel pump which is expected on a 22 year old car.

      With that being said, R32s are getting older so finding one in good condition with low kms might be bit of a hassle compared to finding an R33. The upside to this is that an R32 will probably be cheaper than an R33, especially if you wait until the R34s are available. One of the other advantages with an r32 is that there's an increasing amount of aftermarket support for them in North America.

      250-300WHP is attainable on an RB20det without too much hassle. Intake, exhaust, turbo, fmic, injectors, fuel pump, z32 MAF and a good tune and you should reach it or be pretty close. If you decide that you want a lot more than that then I would recommend just buying a clean r32 shell for 1-2k and dropping an rb25det in it.

      IMO, if you're going to buy a gts4 you may as well just spend the little bit extra and get a GTR. It's not that hard to find a clean GTR, and if you're really struggling to find a clean local one then contact an importer and have one imported. I've heard lots of good things about Feast Auto, although I've never personally dealt with them.

        Straight drop to upgrade to the GTR tranny, or if you with a 26.
        But the RB20 is the bee's knee's its rev's with no effort and can easily hold its own against a RB25.
        and its parts that aren't interchangeable with the 25 are usually cheaper.
        Real Skyline owners have lost at least one to a freakish accident (*- ω -) = #dungive'a

            R33, R34 have a better front upper arm setup (the way it distributes load on bushes) vs R32 and longer wheelbase which makes it more stable for racetrack. With shorter wheelbase R32 is more fun to drive.

            RB25DET is like a cross between a RB20 with intake manifold design, exhaust manifold design, RB26 with capacity. Also RB25DET has VVT which gives good hp gains when set correctly, but like most parts on cars it becomes a problem (fails) with age.

            With R33 25T or R34 GTT models, can fit a RB26 and with wiring changes it works with stock trans, etc (sleeper). If have auto R32 with RB20DET, RB25DET manual trans bolts up without need of custom rear gearbox crossmember. Also can fit GTR rear subframe, custom one piece propshaft, etc for a stronger drivetrain. Or another option is RB30 bottomend, RB25DET or RB26DETT head.

                      R33 all the way. Over 7 years newer I your lookin at a 1997 or 1997. I prefer the quality of the interior, front end looks more aggressive with series 2. Interior plastics are of higher quality, have yet to come across a 33 with rust on exterior. I've owned both and I dOnt think I will go back to a 32

                        Voted R33 - meh, it's kind of like saying I want a Pathfinder: what's better a WD21, R50 or R51. Go with what makes you happy.

                          R32's are better for track than the 33's. If your going for, and I use this term loosely, reliability, go for the R33. Personally I prefer the style of the 32, but that's just me. My ultimate choice would be an R34. The 33's looks just don't do it for me.

                            R32>R33, better looking interior, the exterior is a given.
                            and why not go with an HNR? there's no way one can argue that its not a better platform then the HCR.

                              R33 gtst is a great daily car when mostly stock with intake, intercooler and exhaust. Responsive, smooth, enough power to have fun.
                              Long and low, r33 is my pick for daily. I could see an r32 for track because of wheelbase and weight.
