  • RB20 forged pistons

who makes GOOD forged pistons for the RB20?

all I see avaliable is arias pistons, to be honest never even heard of them and doubt there very good. read a few things on honda forums about skirt knock on cold start and quality being poor.

I also see super tech makes valves and pistons, again are these any good?

Super tech is pretty well known and reputable.

dont know how much money you have spent on your rb20.. but im telling you theyre only worth refresh builds with new bearings, gaskets, rings, pumps, and belts. wouldnt put anything else into a rb20 man... just get a rb25 or 26 youll spend a ton of money building a forged rb20 and the guy next to you will have a stock rb25 neo with a basic tune and have the same hp... just my 2c

edit: that spool kit is $2100 pluss shipping. i paid $1900 after shipping for rb25 neo with tranny wiring harness and ecu

i would just build the 20, get it running then save up for a better swap. but hey if your dead set on building the 20 then ya that spool kit is baller

I have not bought one yet but I am going to.

I think the RB25 and 26 are WAAAY over priced for what they really. are, I also believe the RB20 has a lot of untapped potential because people thin of it as a 2 liter.

I will be compound turbocharging my RB20. I'm looking for a short stroke long rod RB20 (already has one of those)

600hp RB20 with no lag? yes please.

653ps (653 US hp) is the max they have extracted in Japan.

This person runs ACL forged pistons (stock I beam conrods, stock conrods bolts) in his 550hp RB20DET powered R32 GT2 racecar (running on E85 gas and is limited by the ignition system, stock LS V8 truck coilpack conversion should fix that) -

do you think more can be extracted with a compound turbo setup?

Depends on turbo size with compound setup. Boost Logic would be the people in the US to contact (have the experience making straight 6 compound turbo setups with custom exhaust manifolds, etc) -

I was able to catch Marc at Boost Logic for just a second and got him to explain his turbo compound setup.

Also head would be a restriction (port size, valve size, cams specs to suit, consult a head specialist). But could run some custom aggressive 280-290 duration cams, as I think with 653hp they were only running high side of 270 duration cams with RB24 stroker kit (RB26 crank, RB26 conrods, Tomei, HKS or similar pistons, could have been the HKS stroker kit with custom Darton sleeves), HKS T51 turbo kit (or was it a TO4R turbo kit???). Would have to check the specs again.

Around 550hp at engine is not hard to achieve, even with stock bottomend (conrods, pistons, crank), metal headgasket, stock cams with adjustable cam gears, bolt on mods, modified stock ECU, etc (done on the cheap with Ebay parts, stock parts, etc) -

Above 550hp seems to be a challenge, but not impossible to achieve with correct mods to head, turbo side, internals of engine.

Look here to see what others have achieved (there's a few above 550hp RB20DET engines with stroker kits, cams, etc) -

With gearbox, can run a local V8 gearbox (Tremec or similar and I think some are rated to 900nm and would handle a modified RB20DET without fuss) with custom CNC bellhousing (or custom CNC adaptor plate between bellhousing, engine) to suit.
