  • Damn you work quickly, engine out and everything! Good stuff!

I'm curious to see what other weight saving ideas you have. I've been gutting my car more and more over the winter.

    • Ya I'm wondering what the car would feel like with all that weight reduction. Also what are bash bars?
And mike ya you should post up a build thread!

Yea should take out alot of slop, im sure the sunframe, and other replacement arm bushings will help with that.

Even tho Im deleting I still am adding weight back with the roll cage.

Sorry If I lose some of you guys with the Drift lingo, Bash bars are bars that protect your intercooler/rad and hopefully save your shell in the event of coming into contact with another car and wall tap etc.

Some pics of designs I like I stole online:

It may be hard for some to image the thought of smashing up a R32, believe me I try and keep her clean al the time. Guess ill just have to man up and push the limit.

Hey Nick, I try my best to keep her clean, always have and always will. Hopefully I dont get to comfortable with the entrance speeds and pile her in. No primises!

Adam, that is a good idea but the plan was to get them dialed in on the dyno when I was there to make use of them. Needless to say things went wrong and I spent all day trouble shooting and used up all my $$$ on the dyno and getting there.

Hopfully this years dyno session goes smoother with the new compression, properly sealed manifold and up the boost from 13.5 to 18.

I have tried updating 3 times for you guys but gtrc is been a pain for me an losing all typed into and pictures.

Stay tuned as I have two back to back massive updates with 61 days and counting for Round 1 of Driftwest Canadian drift series.

              • Cage Update:

I last leftoff dropping my car off in Edmonton to get fabbed up for the upcoming drift season, im pretty happy with the outcome.

Dont mind the mess it will be getting all cleaned up a preped for new interior paint.

This is my favorite shot as you can see the bash bar:

I have Por to coat the bar metal bases and where it was welded to the frame/base of the car to seal it. The cage will also be getting fresh paint after some self etching primer.

Getting masked up with napa painters paper:

                Optimus PRIME!

The last time I was painting im sure I inhaled to many paint fumes so I figured it was a good idea to purchase a proper mask!

With getting everything primed up and planning to remove my rear subframe for bushings? 2way diff/ new suspension peices.

I had to make room in the garage for a new member of the family:

Got a tire machine which should not only help out the drift season to save on mounting costs but my local Car club as it was a Donation from a local dealership.

I wanted to delete a bunch of the wiring that I am not using anyways, with no use for defrost/speaker wiring/hicas wiring/wiper and nossels there isnt much left running to the back of the car.

I have not not even takled under the dash yet and to be honest If I dont have time before the first race it will have to wait. Needless to say I am heat shrinking all the wiring that were cut and deleted.

Hey Skym I am sorry Im not sure what you mean I have a bar that runs from the front "footwell" that the door bars connect to. As as that bar goes up and around the top of the doorway.

                          • More Roll Cage action

Im sure you guys can already tell what my favorite color is, if not this will confirm it:

Hard to tell but its a custom tri stage paint code I got mixed up to match my Volk/panasport wheels and valve covers powdercoat.

                            Should pop in the sunlight.

As mentioned before I wanted to focus on handling with fresh poly bushings for the knuckles and lower control arms for the rear as they have not been replaced yet.

                            Subframe Removal:

All in all the subframe removal is not hard at all just make sure you have a jack to help you out unless you want to bench press what ya dont remove:P

And time to play with fire!

I looked on Gtrc and found some other members builds were alot of help, even with wise words from RWDGTR it was not the funest job by anymeans:

                            Grossss.

More burning, once you have most of the rubber lossened up you can press or hammer out the metal peices. Then the real fun of cuting and chisel action begins:

While I was working away I asked the Girl friend to put these in the Freezer for me.......Needless to say she didnt understand and looked at me as if I had three heads:

Let those Bings solid subframes bushings cool off for Drop in fitment.
Took me a bit to get the hang of it but once I made a couple relief cuts I could chisel out the metal sleaves:

                            Empty

                            Gave her some paint:

Install of the bushings when they were frozen was the best thing ever, couple small taps with the rubber mallet and they were in:

Now Im not very good with parts stashes or compilations but this one I was very proud of that not only freshens up the car, will play a big role in the handling department this year:

Ill let you list off what you see:P

Thanx Nick, Yea I wanted to upgrade from my Ams ones that I had. Ams is ok... but the Driftworks quality I noticable right out of the box. Driftworks has Higher quality bearings, the collars on the FUCAs altho they look the same the collars is feels much stronger then the cheap CNCed Ams ones.

Ill touch more on that subject later!

                                Back to the goods:

Last on the list of bushing removal was the rear Knuckles and Rear Lower control arms.

Now maybe It was just me but I was looking online /Gtrc/ and was told that a 300zx or 240sx Master bushings kit by Energy suspension would come with the bushings I needed to replace the knuckles and RLCAs. Sadly this was not true.

Once agian RWDGTR bailed me out and helped me source all the bushings needed in one kit via a Ebay energy suspension dealer for S13 bushings.

The Knuckles were super easy, with a puller and the rubber drilled out it was pretty simple to access the Metal sleaves. Which then can be chiseled out.

Now the Rear Lower control arms were another story!

This was by far the hardest thing I have came across while working on this car. I mean of all things right, Four bushings.

I mandaged to manage that thing and couldnt take it any longer. So another order of Orange Parts was made:

There I am set up in the rear untill Swaybars. Should really take out all the slop and take advanage of the rest of the upgrades.

Little Test fit untill I have everything back in.

                                Two way Diff Instal

I looked at all my options welded, shimmed, and the 2way just seemed to be the proper fit for the job.

I ended up scoring a really good deal off a Pro Formula D. Driver by the name of Ian Fournier. If it was a good enough spare for a Supercharged Vk45 Skyline its good enough for my little rb20.

Old stocker, nothing wrong with her so Ill probably just keep as a spare.

                                New Hotness:

There isnt any markings but I was told by Ian it is either a Tomei or Osgiken. Cant really compain either way.

I decided to order all new seals and bearings for the diff so the diff will stil like this untill they arrive.

Some more goodies Showed up that will make the season progress:

                                ASD 10 inch Hydro Ebrake:

This will help out alot as my ebrake cable as been getting stretched and wore out, I did just last year upgrade to Project MU ebrake shoes so those will probably be up for sale.

I will run a line directly from my master under the driver seat and tee them to the Rear calipers with a proportioning valve to control the amount of pressure Ill get to the rear brakes.

I am excited and nervous at the same time for this install, Ill keep you guys updated on this one.

This is a must as the Driftwest Series requires Fia approved gear:

I thing feels awesome, best seat in the House for sure. I could have got carriered away and got a full Carbon fibre one but not only is it comfy its alot lighter then my Sparco Fighter street seats, or stockers for that matter.
