Hard for me to explain, easier to show in a photo.

See the vertical bar / brace at front of rollcage, just behind the top of steering wheel.

Also just behind his head (covered by his head) is a cross brace connecting top of rollcage to middle section of rollcage.

Both braces help to stop that top part of rollcage that goes over top of doorway on both sides of car from bending when car flips. I noticed they are standard fitment on rollcages these days.

      • Hey Skym,

This maybe true, either way its a little late for me. Plus this cage does meet the requirments to be able to go to any drift events that require cages.

I hear what your saying tho, maybe next car

        • The chance of the car flipping would be minimal in drifting, unless ride up the side of another car, or have a flat bottom on car.

Hey Burton, I do try to keep her clean even tho it is a driftcar. The intake is a PNT intake manifold for the rb20.

Seens how its the winter months I figure I can try and keep up to speed. How here we go.

                      • UPDATE TIME!

Ok so I left off with cage painting and a bunch of uninstalled parts.

The next thing on the list for the 2013 race season was to do a full rb20 Refresh/rebuild. I wanted some good compression and reliability before the new tune.

List of parts that went in:

                        - Tomei Stock bore Metal headgasket ( had oem before)
                        - Brand new oem piston rings
                        - Acl race bearings Main and Rods (stock clearance)
                        - New oem oil pump
                        - Tomei Adjustable cam gears ( Last cheapo's cost me a head)
                        - Oem Nissan gasket kit
                        - New Oem crank gear
                        - New oem crank gear spacer

I am Missing alot of pictures of the rebuilt process but will add them when I find them.

The night started out with honing the block, before i knew with the help of my friend jordan we had the block assembled and back together:

I was nervous as I have never "rebuilt and engine" before and obviously never went to mechanic school. Im not going to learn any younger tho.

The next couple days I had it in was making sure everything was locked down and everything checked out:

Really happy how it was all coming together.

Here is the first startup to make sure everything works, fingers crossed!

At first I had a little bit of lifter tick, went away after it got some oil up in the head.

                        - make sure once you do a rebuild you monitor oil levels as it wont take the usual 5L etc, it will need more from bare empty.

Everything was in ship shape and dyno time was coming up, unfortunately I was not able to get my front glass in time so hoping the tuner was ok with that.

Headed down to Red deer Alberta to get Cam at Lightspeed for the tune ( First week of May).

Only two weeks away from my very first Pro Drifting competition.

                        All loaded up:

                            • DYNO TIME

So with the car all loaded up we headed down to Calgary to get a break in tune with Toma.

Because I was in a hurry getting the car back together I was scared to even drive it around in first gear, I then learned it was ok to move the car on its own power just no boosting basically. (now I know GIJOE)

We got the car strapped down on the dyno and everything what ready to rock.

Toma puts it in first gear, and as soon as there was load on the car you could hear a terrible howl coming from the rear end.

( two way diff) This was not a good sound. On further inspection it seemed that the pinion nut or something was very wrong. With no spare diff or parts no where near me I was forced off the dyno. Luckly toma was a nice guy and only charged me $100. Instead of the full $500 as quoted.

So here I am forced out $600 on gas and wasted day and no tune. Worst part was my buddy that towed me down had to be back in Grande Prairie (7 hour) drive.

So in desperation I sent my buddy packing as my good friend Dave M came to the rescue and picked me up and towed the car to his shop. So that I could find a diff a hopefully have it swapped out in time.

Luck was on my side as I had to good friends pull a diff out of a car, and then drive 7 hours just to bail me out. I can not thank them enough.

It was as if I knew that something going to go wrong, I had a tune booked in Red Deer with Cam @ lightspeed two days from the tune I had with toma. My thought process was to get a breakin tune/ drive for two days and then go Back to Cam.

So the next moring after the failed dyno attempt my Friend mitch and I swapped out the diff for a stock VLSD.

I lucked out and Toma was able to fit me back in:

                              Second time is the charm.

We started making numbers again! Then of coarse ran into more issues, car would not build boost past 7 psi... the built in Apexi EBC was not working properly even though it worked the season before.

So we swapped in a manual, set it to 10 psi so I thought.

Well all of a sudden the rb20 just comes to life and almost flies off the dyno. Spiked to 22 psi!

Numbers were looking decent 300 hp at 10psi, cranked it up to 14 and we were getting a ignition breakup.

                              We changed:
                              plugs/ coils/coil harness/ ignitor and not change.

checked voltage to coils and they were not getting enough voltage.... wtf.

                              Click picture for dyno vid

Alt was on the way out, so toma played around with it and got 317 at 12.5psi. That would have to do for now. With less then 9 days until my first race I still had a list of items to finish.

Main list of items to finish before race day:

                              - Install front glass
                              - install roll cage padding
                              - new front break line
                              - install BAttery kill switch

                              Heres how they turned out:

Traction is optional, so are zipties
