Random Throttle issues R33 GTST

So I'm not sure if I'm even describing this correctly - hopefully someone can translate a novice!

I'll be driving along (constant foot pressure on the gas) and for whatever reason, it feels like the fuel is blocked, then comes all at once (note - I don't change my foot pressure). Its like a hiccup in a way - but varies in duration.

Could this be the car going into safe mode (losing a signal and not responding until it got one again)?

Today at lunch it felt like it did this rapidly (3 or 4 times in a matter of a second or so - then was fine the rest of the way back to the office (less then 5K - still babied though). There's other times it loses power for a second or two, rpms slowly drop regardless if I apply more gas - then it either catches it self or stalls. Ive had a stall while going 40, and 3 others while breaking for a light. Its stalled on me about 14+ in the last 4 days (driven about 100km), a couple times including today while Idling (just after starting my car).

I have noticed it occurring more frequently with quicker acceleration (when I baby it and I mean BABY it.. - it doesn't happen as often - such as my 18km drive to work today yet my 5km trip at lunch did).

I've changed my plugs, which I needed to do anyways but up next is to check my MAF/ignition box. I feel like Im on the right track but what does a notice know.

I'd check your fuel pump. If it loses pressure it will do the symptoms you are describing. I had similar hiccup issues as you. Turned out to be my fuel pump losing pressure; seems it was getting old and worn out. I swapped in a Walbro fuel pump and havent had issues since.

Hey thanks for the suggestion. I replaced my stock pump last summer (with the Walbro too) - hadn't had problems with it but I'll definitely keep that in mind.

On that thought, is there anything that would shorten the life of a fuel pump that quickly? Could it be a voltage thing?

Whens the last time you cleaned your MAF, AACV, & IACV/Air Reg.?

I cant say I'm 100% sure. I have had the car maintained for me up until this point, but I want take this stuff under my wing. I have a buddy close by with a shop practically in his garage so for a case of beer - its a decent arrangement.

I'll clean them at the same time (sitting down Thursday night) - assuming I can. Its weird, I just got it back from the shop, it was fine minus some hesitation in boost but I needed new plugs - sh**ty they didnt experience any of this. Thanks for the tip.

Mafs need resoldered

I had your symptoms and the solder in my maf was shot. You can cut the seal on the top of your maf, spray it with maf sensor cleaner and re-solder the connections inside.

I had this same issue last year, car quit on highway, would always start right back up but under any load would die. I babied it home (took me 45 mins that would normally take 10-15) i was doing all the same as you. changed plugs, fuel filter, verified i had fuel pressure, ended up being my maf, i re sodered like mentioned and the car runs now. but you may still have problems later, had it hooked up to a nissan consult cable and the reads are a bit high .mine now has 5000 rpm and higher spitting, i borrowed a buddys maf and now back to full potential.
so if you determine it is your maf, i would just replace and save some headaches

So I cleaned my MAF sensor, and re-soldered the connections. I took the GTST to work today. Its still early (only 20km) but I have to say, feels so much better already. Ill update in a day or so - I also snapped some pix.

This is the first time I've done anything by myself - and also the first time I've soldered so this is DEFINITELY a job for all levels of experience and ability (finally put my crappy tire tool set to work!).

Do it!!! Forget waiting a day or two to update. Car did a complete 180 since cleaning MAF and resoldering connections.

Got back in from lunch today after taking her out for a 40km cruise with a huge grin on my face - I haven't had it since September!
