  • Gauge wiring woes. help!

    Help me electrical gurus!
I picked up a new STRI oil pressure gauge and decided to install it today. 4 wires, spliced 2 of them into my turbo timer harness since it was close by. Connected the battery and found that every warning light on the dash and my turbo timer came on even though the key was off and out of the car. They only come on with the key set to on usually. So here's how I had hooked it up.
I have an hks turbo timer.
The red wire in the turbo timer harness was hot at all times so I hooked up the constant 12 v wire to that.
The green wire in the turbo timer harness was hot with key on so I hooked up the ignition wire from the gauge to that.
The backlight and ground wires I hooked up to previously used wires from another gauge.
So any ideas what's wrong here?
I've been brushing my teeth with jack but it's resulted in terrible amounts of tooth decay.

When i was hooking up my boost gauge, I also tried using the red (power) source wire from my hks turbo timer. and had the same issue gauge on all the time. I tried 3 other power sources under the dash and had the same result with all of them.

So I said eff it and tapped her into the power wire on the back of my deck, because i knew for sure that one only came on with the ignition on. And voila, gauge only lights up when you turn the key to on.

My issue ain't that the gauge is on all the time. EVERYTHING is on all the time. Turbo timer, gauge, hicas and dash warning lights, etc.

Fixed! Found that the constant 12v was shorting against the ignition wire. Working beautifully now. Thanks guys!
