  • Knock?

    Hey all

Curious... the only code I have going off currently is my knock sensor... what would throw that off?

    Trying to figure this out...

New plugs in there. 94gas. Front Mount. Stock boost with a vg30 turbo. 3" exhaust.

    Thanks all.

Knock sensor has failed (out of spec) or knock sensor plug, wiring is causing problem or not plugged in.

Could o2 sensor cause me to knock?

I'm pretty sure mines done... smells like pure fuel out my exhaust.

If it smells like fuel you are running rich. When O2 fails it should make your car run rich (safety) So if its saying knock code and its rich... its probly the knock sensor as skym said.

          ok...

the reason why i think my o2 sensor is done

if well 1 fuel smell out of exhaust
and 2. i have a gauge hooked up to my o2 sensor even tho its a narrow band... the gauge would normally know me the AF ratio with 1 LED light... now its almost like 5 of the LEDs turn on on the gauge to show my AFR hope that makes sense... its like the sensor is sending out a messed up signal that the gauge cannot understand...

now on to the knock sensor... is there anyway to test it to see if its still good or not... where can one get a new one or even find it on the car?

          thanks!

If knock sensor is faulty, not connected, etc, stock ECU should limit rpm to around 5000rpm (safety revlimiter).

There should be 2x knock sensors on intake side of short block (front, rear of short block). New knock sensors from Nissan. I think Bosch make knock sensors, but not sure if compatible with stock ECU.

When o2 sensor fails it gets lazy, so o2 sensor makes ECU make engine stay rich for longer hence flames from exhaust (popping sound). Also revs can go up (lean) and down (rich).

well... i think im knocking cause of the lazy o2 sensor... at least ill try to replace that... needs to be done anyways as like i said its stupidly rich and fuel smell out the exhaust... hopefully that will correct it

i dont think its a faulty knock sensor as the car still revs past 5000 no problems... just sputters a bit right now and alot of popping out the exhaust...

              thanks!

O2 sensor should be checked, changed if necessary every 40-60,000km.

ya that sounds about right... im about 30000 since last change but it was also parked for 3 years during that time with the occasional start like twice a year... so o2 is probably dead

OK this is really starting to piss me off...

Change the o2 sensor and still running rich at idle and decel... this is pissing me off. Idk what else to do.... I can't even drive the car because it smells of fuel so fricken bad.

OK well I figured out where the smell of fuel is coming from. I have a leak near the fuel pump area.

But still having the issue of rich on decel and idle...

Does your engine have a atmosphere vented BOV. If so, that can make engine run rich on decel.

                          Ye it does
But its never done this before.... ever... its very recent that its done this...

Can a fuel leak cause the engine to run rich for whatever reason.,?
