What is needed to run these coils?

Do you just wire them in and go? I hear that these have integrated igniter as well, do you need to remove the stock igniter?

Don't wanna be an a$$ but this has been covered. Please search. But I'll be nice and answer

You need a standalone. You need a tune after doing this.

It eliminates the factory coils and igniter. They give you a much stronger spark then anything stock will give you.

There is about of examples of people doing this so there are plenty of threads on this topic on the internet.

For those who are interested here is what I've found:

LS2 coils can be run on the stock ecu, but dwell time will be very short and ideally this will be adjusted using a stand alone. However several people have run stock dwell upwards of 18 psi and claimed that the LS2 coils still stood up to boost that the oem coils could not handle. If you eventually go to different management, elongate the dwell and massively increase you spark energy.

LS2's have a 4 pin connector: 12 v power, 5 v signal, signal ground, earth ground. The correct order can be found by searching 'megasquirt ls2 coils' on google. Your current oem wiring has a 6 pin on the input side of the igniter and a 3 pin on the coil harness. 12 v power wire is on the 3 pin connector along with a ground you can use and the timing loop wire. The 5 v signals are wired to all 6 of the wires at the igniter input. The correct cylinder for each input wire is found on the back of your oem igniter. Use the ground on the 3 pin for one ground (probably the signal ground), ground the other 4th wire to the head or chassis (i will ground each coil to the head using the oem coil mount threads). Keep the two grounds separate to avoid electrical interference, although some have combined all grounds to one point without issue. Get a set of gm v8 plug wires to reach from coil to plug.

Actually just something I've seen. I'm installing ls2 coils and have nistune with a stock rb20 map load. Dwells times are perfect. So I don't think they are to short on a stock ecu. I could be wrong tho.

Talked to the MSD rep at SEMA and they make a long custom set of wires with the truck (LS2) specific plug (its weird and different for some ungodly reason) so that you can mount the coils anywhere, even on the firewall. The MSD Super Conductor wires are only 40ohm per foot and have almost no EMF interference what so ever. You can even get the LS2 plugs by themselves and use wires that are ment for an OHC engine to get the proper spark plug ends that have the big hole cover for the spark plug. Keeps a lot of crap out of the spark plug well.

Here is a vid of a bench test. Listen to this thing fire.

I've got all the parts I need to do the conversion together now so I may be posting a DIY with pics to this forum rather soon.

                Wish me luck Skyrine friends!

So I've wired them in and started the car. The difference is unreal. I haven't road tested it yet as it is the dead of winter here, but The idle is now silky smooth and it revs up like never before. My OEM ignition system was totally functional with no (suspected) spark blow out issues unit about 15 psi.

I had such a good time and such success with this, I may produce a couple more plug and play harnesses for any interested GTRCer's. Please PM if you would be interested. the coils and a set of plug wires can be purchased brand new for about $250 shipped. Hardest thing to acquire is the coil connectors for the harness which are typically about $80 for 6 on ebay.

$250 shipped?!?! Jesus....you gotta post a link. The cheapest I could find here was $52 each for the coils (cost +5%) for Delcos. I wouldn't buy anything but. I would buy a used Delco over a no-name new one. Another bonus about used is that you get the connectors with the coils (usually).

                      Rockauto.com search ignition under a 2006 GMC Yukon. $38/piece + shipping.

I'd be looking for about $250 all in shipped for the plug n play harness as well. I'd be buying about $150 in materials after connectors, heat shrink, ring terminals, butt connectors ect. Alternatively I'd gladly put the harness together w/ solder and label everything for $100 if you sent me the connectors.

*Just put 6 new delphi coils through the cart all in shipped (to calgary) was $259.64 cnd after tax.

Im still working on the pulg to delete the ignitor.

I didn't use a connector between the input side of igniter and the new wiring. Just connected right to each 5 v signal wire with butt connectors.
