  • rb25det gt2871r .. blew stock turbo :(

so i blew the stock turbo on my s1 rb25 and I'm thinking of doing the garrett gt2871r a couple things I'm unsure of are how much boost it will hold, how much hp its good for and how difficult it will be to install... is it gonna be anything close to a stock bolt on ? what a/r would be better .86 or .64? also i have a mines stage 1 ecu , fmic, exhaust and some other little parts..

Need a aftermarket retuneable ECU (or modified 300ZX ECU, etc if on a lower budget), good gas (at least 94), as are working with a higher compression engine where ECU tune, gas it runs on matters the most if want engine to last. Also fuel system to match.

Ford T3 5 bolt housing, ATP swing gate assembly, etc from here -

HKS GTRS should be bolt on and mentions A/R of exhaust housing, etc -

so some 750cc inceptors and a new fuel pump would help? and would this turbo bolt to the factory manifold and oil lines etc? is my ecu not re tuneable?

Use injector calculator to get a rough idea of what cc injector you need for the hp level you want at engine -

        Fuel pump calculator -

Need custom oil lines (with correct size oil restrictor for ballbearing or non ballbearing core and size, etc is mentioned on ATP website), coolant feed, etc (ATP sell those).

Stock ECU is retuneable, but noone that I know of outside Japan has the equipment to retune it with the 184pin chip, etc. Most use 300ZX (with Nistune that makes it retuneable) that's modified internally to plug into stock loom with Z32 MAF, Z32 plug to suit.

Thinking of going with a gt3071 or 76 now I'm not sure yet because a gt28 seems more like it'd better for a
Sr or rb20 .. This seems a lot more complicated then I anticipated, I want to get this done before the end of summer but it all seems so over my level of knowledge

If want a bolt on solution (stock oil feed, etc), hybrid RB25DET turbo is good for over 400hp at engine (1bar) with Link ECU + MAC boost control solenoid, IAT sensor, hybrid brand FMIC, 3" exhaust into 3.5" exhaust, injectors, fuel pump. But you need to drill out stock oil feed, as it's designed for stock turbo with ballbearing CHRA and hybrid turbo is non ballbearing. Also machine out stock wastegate hole on back of turbo, as it boost spikes if you don't. Another mod would be bigger A/R VG30DET exhaust housing to prevent compressor wheel hitting surge line (if drive accordingly it shouldn't happen with stock RB25DET A/R exhaust housing).

Cherry turbo makes hybrid turbo's -
