  • rb20det intermittent no power

    Has anybody had this before?
Every couple of weeks the ECU will go into a kind of limp mode where it will drive and rev smoothly but make no power. A normal amount of boost is being shown on the gauge so I think it retards the timing.
If I disconnect the battery and touch the terminals together to reset the ECU the fault goes away and comes back in a week or two.
I run 94 octane, the fuel/ air filter/ spark plugs are all new
The ignition coils are all OEM new, OEM new air flow meter, OEM new throttle position sensor. Have checked fuel pressure at idle and also while driving all OK.
No fault codes. Have swapped out crank angle sensor and ignitor. O2 sensor was replaced a year ago.
I have read online of many cars with the same problem but no solutions.
    Thanks

Can you monitor fuel pressure WHILE this happens? My GTST did the exact same thing and it was fuel pump on it's way out. Did it after driving a while usually...

Ah OK it doesn't happen all the time but I will try replacing the pump.

Also had similar problem and it was solved with a new fuel filter. Car would drive normal out of boost but at about 5 psi it would feel like it suddenly just became gutless as the engine continued to rev right to red line. On nistune shows o2 sensor go lean with slight knock signal detected as boost came on followed by massive timing retard for rest of rev range.

Try a filter first and if that doesn't work the fuel pump. Can replace with 300zx fuel filter but you have to zip tie to something as it doesnt fit back in the filter bracket.

Replaced the fuel pump with a larger one and the problem was still there.
The only mod on my engine is an adjustable fuel pressure regulator so I upped my fuel pressure to around 45 psi at idle with vacuum.
The car now has a lot more power. The pressure was in spec before though so I am still looking for the problem bit now have a direction

Rewired the fuel pump with constant 12v and replaced the fuel pump with a larger one. Problem is still happening.
              Any ideas?
Does anyone have an ECU I can try or buy?
