  • Project Rb25Neo help required

I'm planning to put an RB25Neo with transmission in my R32 gts-t.

The car is mostly for drifting and track.
I don't want a whp monster, I want something solid that can hold abuses.

What I plan to do on the rb25 :
Poncam + adjustable cam gear, hks-gtrs turbo, injectors, intake N62(from 300zx) and alumium driveshaft.

    Questions so far :
    1) I want to keep the engine internal as it is, what poncam should I use :
    Tomei 260deg or the Tomei 252deg ?
    2) What boost should I have with stock internal engine ?
    3) Is the rb25 ECU can be used or should I use a 300zx ECU like some say.
    4) Transmission mount, where can I get one or where I can get the measurement to make a custom one ?
    5) Where can I get the measurement for the aluminium driveshaft ?

    thank you !

Wow your all over man. Get a power fc , nismo mounts, are you gonna keep nvcs or dump it ? You have to ask yourself---how much power do I want!?!!!!!!?????

Stock two piece shaft is good enough for 400 hp (corrected Me if I'm wrong). The right boost question is "How much power can a stock ceramic turbo take ? "

I try not to be all over .
not sure about getting a power fc, I'll see if the rb25 ecu can be used with my 300zx maf.
I already have nismo mounts and yes I'll keep the nvcs.

I forgot to mention that I already have to hks gt-rs turbo, I just want something that can hold the power of that turbo on the rb25 neo.
About the driveshaft I'll be happy to keep it, however I can't use the stock one because the lengh is different with the rb25 transmission.

I have a R32 rb25det neo since 4 years now. Very reliable, been able to do 10hr ride every year.

I run a r33 tranny, and im running the 300zx ecu chipped.

Running that ecu is cheaper than apexi power fc and can run vtc, money left for apexi avcr

Of course you will have to make a custom driveshaft.

For 300zx ecu and wiring for rb25det neo, call Robin Almasi at http://almasituning.com/rendez-vous.html

Oem turbo is good for 14 psi I think...

Have some pics of your ride?

thank you for the information, I will call Robin to figure out what to do with the ecu.
I did not know that the power fc wasn't able to run the vtc, I'll probably then just go with the 300zx ecu.

If it's reliable with stock internals, I think I'll run the hks turbine between 18-20 psi and live with whatever power it will give.

Do you know a place where I can make a custom driveshaft ?

I have not picture for the moment, I still have the blown rb20 in the car, I'll probably remove the engine in september.

Is someone has an experience or can tell me if a stock rb25 head can handle Tomei 260deg cams ?

The power fc makes up keep the rb25 neo ecu so vtc works fine there too!

Tell Robin its Simon that refers you. He did a great job for my neo and i got to see him soon to get things set for my new avcr.

For the driveshaft, i think they (autoworx, haig) send it to the driveshaft shop in montreal.
I remember they use the rb20 driveshaft, that section that goes to the differential, and the "nuts" that goes to the rb25 tranny. They measure on the spot the distance from the diff to the tranny "nuts". Mine is not aluminium

1.) Depends on alot of things, turbo, head flow, intake, exhaust flow, etc. The 256 duration Poncams are enough for a slightly larger than stock turbo and with cam timing adjustments can help to spool turbo earlier in rpm. Stock cams are best for response. Only need to adjust vvt and fit adjustable exhaust camgear.

2.) Best to not go above 1 bar with stock headgasket (if want it to last under hard use). If going above 1 bar, replace headgasket with Tomei metal headgasket and upgrade intake gasket to cometic (stock intake gaskets on any RB engine can blow with higher boost levels).

3.) Nistune in 300ZX ECU, Z32 MAF + plug / pigtail for a budget build.

4.) If is a auto R32 chassis, the R33 RB25DET transmission bolts in with I think a manual 240sx crossmember (There's A,B,C stamped on the factory crossmembers. Can't remember which letter the manual 240sx crossmember was, but search the web and you should find it). If manual chassis, need a custom crossmember. Also need a custom / hybrid speedo cable (R33 is electric to dash, R32 is mechanical to dash), search forum.

5.) Can use the yoke off a R33 RB25DET propshaft on a manual R32 driveshaft (ask a local driveshaft specialist). There's a photo somewhere on this forum of that mod to a R32 propshaft. Or can fit a custom 1 piece driveshaft.
                  RESPONSE MONSTER

About the speedo, i had to make a custom speedo pinion on the r33 transmission to have it works with the r32 cluster.i know some people fits a r34 clusters to resolve that...

Thank you for the answers !

Skym, about 1) the Neo has only two types of poncam, i.e. the Type A 252 deg and type B 260 deg.
I might go with the Type B, rawbrokerage and rhdjapan doesn't seem to worry about putting them on a stock neo head.
I will put them along with adjustable camgears.

About the speedo I found the following :

has anyone done that before ?
                      Seems pretty simple...

                      6) I'm from montreal, do you where I can get a good rb25 neo engine with transmission in pristine shape ?
