  • An Open Comment to GTRC

I'd like to make an open comment as a GTRC member.

GTRC has always been a great place where people can gather to discuss Skylines, as well as other cars, in a constructive and positive environment.
I believe that GTRC is one of the best online automotive forums in the world, which is a result of the combination of an excellent administration, and of a great pool of members. GTRC members have formed a tight community where we can discuss our cars, diagnose problems, buy and sell parts, and improve our vehicle enjoyment through meets and photoshoots. GTRC also serves as a massive information database for not only GTRC members, but all Skyline owners in the world as well.

Many other forums that I have been a part of are plagued with arguments, flaming, confrontational attitudes and e-thugs. This leads to an uninformative, negative community which benefits no one.

Being a GTRC member for the past 5 years, I have learned many things about my car through the various posts and threads. I've received help from many people, and feel that I have also returned the favour to many as well. I've always enjoyed the positive atmosphere, and even if I sold my GT-R I'd still want to be part of GTRC. I can honestly say that GTRC has improved the quality of my GT-R ownership and I think it has done so for many other members as well.

That said, I think that we should take a moment to remind ourselves what GTRC is about.
Recently I have seen a lot of unnecessary negative comments, confrontational attitudes, flaming, ridiculing, and arguing.
Let's try to remember that these things are not a part of the GTRC community, and keep negativity off the board.
If there is a specific problem with a member, remember that a PM is also a very good tool to convey a message, without cluttering up the board with nonsense.
Lets keep the high quality of this forum preserved, and remember to check our egos at the door.

Here's to a great finish to the last half of summer!

I must say that even I had moment at Flaming people when I shouldn't have and times where I was flamed. I totally agree with Daryl. Let's all do our part and keep this site as good as it can be. I'm on here almost every day because it's where I hang out with friends (even those I don't know) when I have some free time. Thanks for being there GTRC.

to Daryl. Good post, and hopefully it'll make a difference. But this is the intarweb, making Hero's of Nobody's since it's inception.

I've pretty much stopped posting here, I visit the classifieds, PM some good buddies, maybe read a post or two. I knew it would happen once the Skyline replaced the Cavalier for newb car of choice. It was/is unavoidable.

I hope to see things clear up though, I've met a lot of good people here, received lots of useful info, seen some cool cars come and go.

Yeah that's pretty much because of kids like myself. I don't mean to turn people away from a site like this, I just like to surround myself with these cars, talking to owners and stuff.

Great timing Daryl, our OT section is becoming a home for flaming, as much as I hate to say it, and it's pretty much at the hands of one or two people. This forum is top notch, looking at SON240 and zilvia, if you're not browsing the classifieds, you're in the middle of a bunch of flamewars and ego-driven disputes. That's what I love about this site, we don't have that. A bunch of guys that are just here for the cars and conversation.

            Victory is on the horizon..

I agree with this post, 100 percent. I joined GTRC under the premis of it being a community of people who love the same thing I do: The GT-R.

Now, I find myself flaming people from time to time, and I get flamed as well.

Maybe we can sit down, and put an emotional tie, to all of this.

We all love the same thing, our hearts are in the same place. Whether we own one, whether we dream of owning one, whether we did own one, whether we'll never own one... this car brings us together.

For God's sakes people, don't let it bring us apart.

                I agree with all this..

I find most of the discusssions on this site are inforitive, and useful. and there is some argueing and such, but thats life..

I have a ton of friends that i never would have had if i didnt come on this site, and we didnt ahve meets.. I love the Vancouver meets (even though i rarly have a skyline) i love checking out everyones cars, and just hanging out. thats what i really like the fact that i personaly know or have met most of the main vancouver/bc posters so theres more of a connection with the posts..

I agree, GTRC is one of the best forums I have ever been a member of. GTRC is a great community that really tries to help it members and is by far a lot more civil than most of the forums Ive been too.

One thing though, some members really need to cut the new guys some slack, not every body is an expert or well versed in skyline info right out the box.... they came here to learn... so help them

i agree with m-spec's last part, everyone was a n00b at one point, give the new guys a break, they just want questions answered, kindly point them in the direction of the search button and how to use it, dont jump down their throat trying to be all big and knowledgeable dickhead to them. Like whats been said on my post and this one, GTRC is one of the best community's of people out there, lets keep the name good and not ruin it and have this be another beyond or revscene.

From my time being here, which is a lot shorter than some people, I am confident things are going to get better. I think its just another one of low times.

I've seen the forums get bad and then I've seen them rebound back into a positive place.

Anyone remember GGTTSS-44? That was a low point that sticks out in my mind and then everything got better again ;P

Holy smokes I just realized I've been on the forum just about every day for 2.5 years
