compiling all the DIY's into threads for gts and gtr would be cool, they're scattered everywhere.

I think a great feature for GTRC would be to put together a definitive FAQ. The info is all here somewhere, just need to search them all out. There's also a wiki stickied here as well that everyone should contribute to.

I'm a noob with respect to discussion forum set-up. Is there a way to make it so that anytime a new member first signs on they are directed to a specific section? We could use that section for all the general noob questions so it is pointed out to them and easy to find the first time. Right now we have a skyline tech, GTR tech and GTS tech section... and where are all the noob questions usually posted? In the general skyline discussion which is the first sub forum they see.

Another option may be to require that they post replies at least 10 times before they can start a new post... maybe that would actually force them to look around a bit rather than just signing up and then posting their questions without looking around.

I like what everyones saying here. I know I've posted up stupid questions over the past 3 years but now I search through these forums extensively, if I cant find the answer, I move over to other GTR/nissan forums. I will only say one name here, a new member, -Skyline-GTR-, who really shows what archeic is saying. Posting up threads about what the GTR bolt pattern is? Thats just lazy. That can be found with either a simple PM to a senior member or by looking through a FAQ/GTR Tech subforum.

Being a relative newb to this group, I did find the additional segregation of topics by particular car (GT-R's and GTS-T's, etc) not at all obvious, and I think you can guess how many people actually post in the -technically correct- forum!

Realistically, there are not enough users actively posting to distinguish between GT-R's and GTS-T's, and by diluting the groups in what could possibly be three different forums for any given Skyline tech question, you also limit the number of eyeballs that read the post.

I think it would work better if the existing forums were merged into two or three more generic Skyline tech forums, like: Engine, Suspension, Body

Personally, I'd find it interesting to read about issues relating to the GTS-T or R33, but I'm not going to go digging for them!

                Thoughts?

P.S. The R35 is really a non-issue, as I'm sure that that group is utterly distinct from the JDM Skyline group as a whole. (and really, how many R35 owners are out there, as part of this group?)

Im a noob still but i think that there is really nothing you can do in regards to noobs questions everytime "the season" kicks in. i.e summers, because its a public forum and people are going to post questions without searching because i've done it, and as a noob I know sometimes its easier to ask a simple question instead of searching. but i guess having a noob section can somewhat solve the problem....just my $0.02

And yet despite that, I still always find tutorials on how to do stuff before I go out and do it on my car. Boost gauge install = easy, yet I still resorted to scouring GTRC and Skylines australia for an hour to find the best/easiest way to do it.

Actually meant I was a noob at dealing with setting up discussion forums and not that I was a skyline or GTRCanada noob.

I think rx7 club's noob section is pretty spot on. They have a tech section for those who know more and then a separate tech section for noobs

To be honest, I don't know why so many people are anal if someone posts a new thread about something that is common. Yes, they could have used the search, but hey, who really gives? I find it lame to see someone reply with "Use the search button!", etc where as they could have just gave a quick reply to the question.

+1!!!! same here... i always read up on what im doing first!!! and sometimes ive posted on other forums to ask the questions that seem stupid, or more advanced... i find there is a "level" on this forum... and its good, but each forum has a different level.

Why even have a search function then (and no I'm not the type to just reply "use the search function") I find it lame that people seem to always want to take the easy fast way out. If you search and look around the forum, you may find some things that are interesting and helpful that you had not thought about and actually learn how to search more efficiently. Somehow I don't think that everything is so urgent that you can't take some time looking around. If you have time to surf the net, work on your car and cruise then you have time to search.

Also, it cost money to run this forum including storage space for all the posts. It's great that JZ has never charged for this forum but the money came from somewhere, especially at the beginning.

Part of the reason the search function has difficulty is because of all the multiple posts about the same thing.
