The cars have been around this world for more than 20 years and over 5 years in Canada. You shouldn't have to ask questions like pros cons.... If you already had one, upgrade or get the same.
Black 1991 GTR. Serious garage stand mantle/parts car.
      Black 1990 Pulsar GTiR. Sold
      Silver 1989 GTR. Sold
Black 2010 Subaru WRX. Weekend warrior. Sold.
      Black 2013 F-150 FX4 ecoboost. Daily driver.
White 2012 Ford Explorer Limited. Family wagon.

If 10g's is all you have to spend then I suggest getting a GTS-T. There's plenty for roughly 5-7 grand, leaving you leftover money to put away for maintenance or mods. In essence, if something major does break it'll be a cheaper fix on the GTS-T than a GTR. Now, if money is no object, we have a different story =)

i bought a gts..its far from lame,to be honest its fun to drive doesnt cost as much to maintain.370whp on a 2900lb car has proven to be a serious contender on the street and strip.dont cut what you dont understand.
in saying that yes a gtr will give you more in the end .they are the godizilla everyone remebers .but the the baby zilla still holds its own.the money i saved from the cost of buying a good shape gtr i bought a sweet unmolested gts and had cash to mod it and turn it into the beast it is to day.

buy the car that suits your life, what your willing to spend to repair and maintain.
rb26 3000+ $$$ to buy if you blow it or up to 5000+$$$$ to rebuild .rb20/25 1000-2500$$ to buy or 3000$$$ to build. look around the forms in aus they have pros and cons for both and youll find that it depends on the person and what there needs are.

dont cut what i dont understand? ive owned 2 gts-t, and even if i drove the piss out of them, they were still boring as ****.

yeah sure anything can be fun if you dump enough money into it, but obvoiusly the OP doesnt have much money, so hes probably just gonna stick with a few simple bolt ons, and a gts-t with a few simple bolt ons is still, just a boring gts-t.

a jdm GC8 is 10x more fun to drive than a gts-t stock for stock.

and OP, heres a clean stock, sub $10,000 gtr.

To be fair, stock GTR's, or close to stock GTR's, don't feel all that fast. They are, mind you, it's just that they have nice long gears, which makes their acceleration feel quite linear and not "explosive", at least from the rides I've had.

I can honestly say that riding shotgun in a stock turbo r32 gtst with just bolt ons, the car feels faster from the passenger seat than a mostly stock GTR's passenger seat. I honestly think it all comes down to the gearing. It's not as fast, obviously, but the way the power comes on makes it "feel" faster.

If you disagree, remember to call me a moron, it's the internet way.

The linear transistion to boost is due to being twin turbo and taller gearing doesn't help. I agree GTS-T feels more violent on transistion to boost due to being single turbo and shorter gear ratio's help. With small turbo upgrade I noticed it just enhances that violent transistion (more violent). But if GTS-T has problems, from leaking exhaust manifold to ECU not being tuned after mods it doesn't feel fast (very flat). But once you fix them, it's fun. GTR is the same.

The twin turbo's were to provide smoother transistion to boost out of corners, instead of single turbo that provided a sudden / violent transistion to boost and car went sideways.

Biggest Con for all Skylines is they are old and need TLC.

                              Love it lol

Its an interesting debate to say the least but everyones been spot on in their debate; GTST is cheaper to maintain, and is cheaper to achieve a more dramatic HP to weight ratio than a GTR.

My car weighs 1120 kg @ 280 whp = 4 kg per hp
Stock GTR weighs 1450(+-20 kg) @ 280 (PS which is theoretical crank - so lets say for arguments sake, 280 whp) = 5.18 kg per hp

That's to say, for a GTR to achieve identical power to weight, it would have to be making ~360 whp.

My car is just simple bolt ons and DIY head work with a stock turbo.. Can be achieved with less than 1200$ (exhaust, intake, injectors, fuel pump, nistune, tune etc) if shopped around.. Weight savings are free; hicas delete, sound deadening, rebar and useless (well not really) metal fab etc.. I wont divulge all my secrets :P

I can't say for certain, but for a GTR to make 360 whp could potentially cost more than bolt on upgrades..

The other huge difference between both vehicles as most have stated are the obvious repair and maintenance costs.. Much more expensive to replace parts on a GTR .. 2 filters? 2 turbos? 2 o2's? for starters.. Also GTST's can source GTR parts as upgrades. Injectors are relatively cheap, 60$ GTR fuel pump in mint condition etc..

I love my GTST, and it blows a stock GTR out of the water.. It's fast, light, nimble, daily driveable and essentially does everything i could ask for in a car.. All it's missing is the historical factor the GTR posesses. A GTR IS a GTR, and it will always be affiliated with the term Skyline. I had NO FREAKING clue what a Skyline was when i bought it, if anything i thought people in the "rice" community were a joke! Lol, i know its pretty random.. So when i bought it i thought all Skylines were the same, but in all honesty, with the knowledge i have about Skylines now i would only purchase a GTR if i had the cash to splurge on expenses, otherwise i'd buy a smoked GTST for cheap, and with the money i knew i was saving on the typical GTR maintenance after purchase, i'd throw in a built 26 with a 25 trans and call it a day.. lol

what did you do to get a gts-t down to 1120kg? Everywhere I looked on the internet says around 1320. I've never owned a gts-t so I can"t say how they drive.

My favorite thing about the gtr, with 587whp I think I would be dead already if it was a gts-t
