Does anyone know if I can do this without having to switch the rear output of the driveshaft? Also can I use a gtr lsd in a gts? I am wondering because someone has a nice one for sale that I want to buy but I want to make sure it will work first. I think it's about time for one as mine still has original one in it with 170000 kms on it, and it was driven pretty hard. Anyways let me know

Gtr rear diff in a gts

Nismo sell a LSD upgrade for GTS-T diffhead. It's 1.5 or 2 way. But 1.5 way can be converted to 2 way.
About GTR diffhead -
1.) I think mount hole size (diameter, location) is different on GTR diffhead (need GTR subframe that bolts in).
Here's a GTR diffhead bolted in on a S13 (240sx? in Northern hemisphere) -
2.) As you mentioned, input shaft is different -
Not sure about output shaft's (usually amount of bolts, nuts to bolt half shaft's on are the difference between turbo, non turbo diffhead's). Also GTR halfshaft's are bigger in diameter (stronger).
3.) Then need GTR rear shocks, as bottom of GTR rear shocks have a U mount vs 0 mount for GTS rear shocks.Last edited by Skym; 01-29-2011, 03:54 PM.RESPONSE MONSTER

it definitely wont fit if you just want to swap the whole pumpkin, but if you're thinking of taking the diff out of the carrier and swapping it over, then it MIGHT, i am still not 100% positive whether or not the GTR uses an R230 or an R200.. the pumpkin looks like an R230, but i have read different..

You need the axle hubs too and the knuckels from GTR or Z32 as the axles are larger. Good way to do it actually!

I already have a one piece driveshaft that fits great and I still wanna use that one without having to change it out for another. I was hoping I could drop the pumpkin in and call it a day but from what it sounds I don't think that is a possibility. Does anyone know where I can get a good diff for a half decent price? I know my diff right now has lived it's life and with the power I plan to put out I think it would be a good decision to upgrade it or itleast get one with a lower km one. Please let me know what you guys thinkMiss driving sooooo bad! Need to get a car on the road ASAP!

Stock GTS Viscous LSD has shims that you replace as diffhead ages (basic maintenance) which tightens it up again. They are available in different thicknesses from Nissan. Also you'll need a new gasket for diffhead cover when you remove diffhead cover on back of stock LSD.
From experience when stock GTS Viscous LSD fails, it drives on passenger side wheel only. I gather replacing shims might fix it, but not sure as haven't tried it.
From what I understand, the new Nismo LSD's have carbon?? plates which I think provide smoother transistion, so might be more expensive. Can find older versions of Nismo LSD and other aftermarket LSD's on Yahoo Auctions.
Nismo GT LSD - Pro -
The Nismo GT LSD Pro is available in 1.5 and 2 way configurations with 3 stage initial torque selection.
I think Pro is top of the line Nismo LSD.Last edited by Skym; 01-30-2011, 11:42 AM.RESPONSE MONSTER

I have seen a couple LSDs but looking for the best bang for my buck. I understand I can just use shims for it but I don't think I'm really interested in doing so. I would just rather replace it and not have to worry about the diff failing or making retarded grinding noises.Miss driving sooooo bad! Need to get a car on the road ASAP!

I never knew you could replace the shims. But none the less. If im going to spend 1200 bucks to get a nismo LSD. i might as well spend 1000 bucks and get a Kaaz 1.5 way diff since i will be drifting my carsigpic

I've only ever seen the shim mod in a GTR diff. Didnt think it could be done on a GTS diff?
What are you doing with your car? If your drifting or doing hard launches, then find a GTR diff and swap it in the GTS case and use GTR axles and GTR/Z32 hubs. The whole purpose to this mod is to have the stronger axles cuz the 32 axles bust too often. I've never busted a GTR axle.. yet. Then shim the GTR lsd and call it a day. With this way of doing it, you can keep your driveshaft. if you wanted to drop in a GTR diff complete you would need to swap to a GTR subframe, which can be done easy enough but then your driveshaft would need to be modified and its not really worth going that rout I would think.Last edited by jdms13rhd; 01-30-2011, 08:17 PM.ALLEN PETERSEN

That's good to know, as wondering if GTR LSD, etc would fit in GTS casing and GTR halfshaft's, etc can be used.
Rear LSD diffhead should be mechanical on R32 GTR and viscous on R32 GTS.
Shimming should be able to be done with both GTR, GTS diffhead's.
Here's a how to with GTS viscous diffhead -
Actually, after looking at link above again, I think it might have been faulty viscous coupling causing the failure on diffhead, but maybe thicker shims might help regain some drive to other wheel???Last edited by Skym; 01-30-2011, 08:30 PM.RESPONSE MONSTER

you cant shim a gtst diff (well, shimming in this context as in shims for the clutch packs to put more preload on them, and not shims as in shims for the bearings.) because the gtst diff is a viscous coupling lsd, GTR's use a clutch type mechanical LSD, much like the aftermarket diffs, with the clutch packs inside and all.

Never done that shim on a GTS diff before as in that link. Not a bad idea either. Tho, Still be busting axles.ALLEN PETERSEN
