2000$ with a few bolt ons and 150 shot nitrous

    70,000$ with a Dry sumped, V-cammed, OS giken rb30 with a new EFR 7670 and a motec m800

a better idea is start with a budget and work from there

Are you struggling to afford the GTR or just decided you wanted one recently? If you can afford your car (not paying a loan on the thing so it's paid off) than 500hp should be easy to pay for.

I'd say anywhere from $2000 to whatever. Look at others' builds to see what they've done. Don't go by mine cause that's a different budget to go by. I dont' have 500hp yet and I've got above $2k

Best thing to do like super dude says, set a budget and go by that. I'm still within my budget (since I originally was budgeting for a Z06) so I'm not in the dog house yet with the wife lol.

If you are unable to buy the car cash, then worry about keeping the thing running since you can't afford your car just yet. If it breaks, then start looking for more power. Otherwise, make more power when you can afford it. Bank loans are expensive in the wallet (interest rates are nasty) and line someone else's wallet. I did the 5% budget (5% of net income) so I never spend more than I can afford.

I have a chart that shows me, for example, what part I bought back in 2005, from who, how much, shipping cost, taxes spent and so on. This way, I keep track of everything and know if I'm within spending limits.

Hope this helps you on your quest.

you could get 500 whp for 2000 like they say but 500 whp reliably is a whole other story. to get 500 whp safely i would say cheaply 10k or you can go like nismostune and i am gna guess around 20-30k with ball ****!

A good quality stock GTR pulls very hard and is a load of fun. Get the car first then decide how much extra power you need, if any.

500hp at engine is not hard. Can do it with a basic boost up + stock bottomend if in good condition and stock cams.

For reliable engine (if bottomend is ok) -

                  Nistune for stock ECU
                  600cc injectors
                  255lph fuelpump
                  Z32 AFM x2 + Z32 plugs
                  Apexi podfilter x2
                  Full exhaust from turbo's
HKS EVCS boost controller or similar
                  Nismo twin plate clutch
                  R34 N1 turbo's or GT2860? turbo's
Tomei 1.2mm 87mm bore metal headgasket
                  ARP headstuds
Tomei metal intake, exhaust gasket kit, Nissan repair gasket kit for valve seals, etc
Nismo or Tomei sump baffle plate to make sure there's no oilstarvation problems.

Basic boost up of stock R32 RB26 engine can produce 430hp.

If want that hp cheap, buy a GTR with the above mods.

Cheap HP = bad HP... Have learned this from experience.

On a side note I don't think 600cc injectors would be enough for 500hp. Maybe 500 at the crank but not to the wheels

rule of thumb: rougly 1hp at the crank =1cc. 600cc = ~600hp at the crank give or take thats pretty close to 500whp

Stop being a leech and do some searching. God knows ALL the information you're looking for is on this site.

And I will give you a high five if you can make 500whp on a $2000 budget. HELL, I'll give you an extra 1K. Get it done for 3K and you are my hero.

                        Good luck. lol

I got a good solid running GTR. By the time I built a good reliable base (coils, coil harness, plugs, good clutch, brakes, changed the fluids ect.) I was over $2G.
You have to consider you have to spend a minimum of $400 for a piggy back then another $400 to tune it properly. Toss a tank of gas in there and your budget is already 1/2 gone and your at roughly 300-330 hp.

Let me put it this way. I helped build a 528AWHP GTR a few years ago. It made that power on twin GT2860r-5 turbos, N1 block + a bunch of other stuff like Tomei manifolds, SARD injectors, ATI damper, R34 IC, OSG twin plate, Tomei rear diff, PFC + gauges, fuel rail, FPR, pump etc. etc. etc. He spent upwards of 15k and it still blew up in the new owners hands when it was sold.

You want a RELIABLE 500whp, be prepared to spend 20k and you need to take into account the clutch, front diff (known to blow up), blowing up trannies etc. Plus all the small details. Hell, I've done a pretty simple build on my Miata and have spent over 10K already. And I don't even have a power adder yet. That's just the motor + peripherals. And parts for Miatas are CHEAP compared to Skylines.

Here is what you need to do for a basic 400-450whp build that won't break the bank too much.

                              1) Toss the turbos and pick up some GT2860R-5's. They are the "go to" turbo for GTR's. This will be the most expensive part of the build. Quick spool, great power potential (made 528AWHP on 1.8 Bar on 91 Cali **** gas). The turbos still had more in them but the injectors were maxed.
                              2) Get engine management. Don't get a piggy back. You will regret it. PFC is the go-to here.
                              3) If your bottom end it healthy, pull the head, throw some ARP head studs on, deck the head, metal headgasket and put it back together.
                              4) Pick up some 600CC injectors. Leave the stock fuel rail. It's fine. Get a FPR (NISMO works fine, stock one oscillates too much), and a fuel pump. Don't need to go crazy here. A Tomei or Nismo pump will flow enough for 500whp.
                              5) Get a clutch. You're choice here
                              6) Get a new coilpack harness, buy new coilpacks as well. Spark blow out sucks
                              7) Get a downpipe, keep the stock intake pipes they are fine. Get filters and Z32 MAFS.

And the most importaint step. Get a tuner that will NOT blow your **** up. A good tuner will know when he needs to stop pushing the motor and the boost. Key questions to ask your possible tuner. Do you know what "MBT" is? (google it), Do you tune with detcans? (again google,) If the answer is NO or they have no idea what you are talking about. Keep looking.

What I listed above will not break the bank too much and make a solid 425-450WHP. The limiting factor will be the block. Don't push the turbos too high, you will need some self control. Once you have money, build a block and go nuts.

The thing with RB26's, it's easy to make 400-450whp. The last 50whp to get you in the 500whp club is what will cost $$$.. Also, where you see WHP in this post, refer to it as AWHP. 525AWHP is way more than 525RWHP.
