• This week I had the chance to work on my first american car, the owner bought the car with that horrible paint job and decide to sand it to achieve a better finish. The problem with his sanding was that he didn’t use the same method everywhere on the car( some panels were done my wet-sand, some were done by machine, some with different grades). After trying to compound 2 differents panels he gave up and gave me a call so I can fix his problem. This is another good exemple where wet-sanding is not as easy as people may think.

            Passager side :

/ Here’s the initial condition of the car.

Measure the paint with my paint gauge to make sure it’s thick enought to do the good correction.

Thickness is fine, so I start doing my 3-step like we agreed.

Look great but let’s look closer..

/ There’s way too much small scratches, I can’t do this.

            So, I try a 5-step polish.

            And closer…

/ This is what I’m looking for. Great finish! But there’s a problem, I can’t do a 5-step in one single day and the owner agreed to pay for a 3-step not a 5-step.

            • So I’m thinking.. if the owner took the times to wet-sand his whole car, he might expect a near-brand new finish no? I decide to go ahead and do the 5-step, without charging anything more, because I’m not a business, I’m here to do a great job, that’s the ultimate goal. Make sens? And it’s Christmas for Christ sake!!

                • I took the times to show you the paint after the compound (the first-step of my 4 step process). You can see it’s still hazy, there’s lot of circle scratches. To conclude, it doesn’t look nice. This is to show to people who send me PM wondering how much it cost to do a compound? I always answer: You won’t like the result of a compound if you don’t finish with a polish. A compound is simply too rough to achieve a nice wet finish. Just a quick head-up.

OLOR="blue"]I think i twill be a good idea to do an engine wash and headlight polish.

See ya!! And if you have a garage and would like to have your car shiny before everybody, don’t hesitate!

                    • As we speak, i'm over-book, I need to start training my brother to detail with me. so the answer is no.

Usually, the demands lower in july so I guess maybe this summer, I will offer the opportunity to ontarians to have their car detailed profesionnally.

However, I must warm everyone, there will be a premium price because I have to take into account high mileage, food and motel.

                            • Ford Hot-rod.

Here’s another challenging car, not because the paint was in hard condition but because of the odd curves the car have! The owner picked up the car from the states but while it was sitting at the border, we think a cat decided to take a closer look at the beautiful paint this Hot-Rod have ..lol! So, for a fine car like this one, I went with my finest Wolfgang polish and finished up with finishing glaze for the absolute best look possible.

                              2-STEP polishing:
                              Wolfgang polish combo
PB Natty’s Red (the owner wanted to flake to pop!)
                              DP Tire gloss
                              DP Wheel glaze
                              Duragloss Metal polish
                              Wg hand applicator
                              Tons of Microfiber
                              Brinkmann lights.

                              Tike taken: 7: 30 approx.

                              Initial condition:

There are some light swirls but it’s mostly does scratches that bug the owner.

This is the only place (one of the front fender) where the paint is cracked so I had to be very careful.

                              Odd shape:

As you can see my machine can’t go everywhere on this car.. hand polishing will be needed!

So I had to polish by hand..

                              Correction :

Can we say freshly painted? Showroom condition, les amis!

                              • Metal polishing:

Wow that grill tooks me forever to do!! LOL go between each single spoke is something haha.

                                And AFTER :

                                Polishing the wheel :

And when the owner thought I was done (lol !!) he see me pulling another products of my collection: DP Wheel glaze. I never stop! There’s always something to detail on a car héhé. Too bad, the wheel have some light swirls.

                                With DP Tire Gloss.

                                Final shot:

Too bad, the sun went down so I didn’t have enough light to make this orange paint justice. I tried my best.. but Like I always says, the most important is that the owner and me agreed that the car look fantastic. Sure, I hope you guys like it too but that’s not the most important thing.
