Global TV will be airing the first showing of the 2006 Targa Newfoundland documentary this Saturday (January 27th) at 9:00PM in all time zones across Canada (but check your local listings). It will follow on Speed Channel (for U.S. viewers) later on in the spring but I haven't seen any dates for it yet.
Apparently the film this year is going to be quite different from the previous year's documentaries. It focuses more on the "motorsport" aspects of the event instead of being a "travelogue/tourism" type flick. Previous films did not show very much of the carnage since it was felt it would create a poor impression of the event in the eyes of the "anti-car racing" crowd. This year there is more crash info and competitor highlights. I have been told by Bob Giannou that there is an interview with my son Chris just after the crash! I wonder what he has to say about his old man's driving?
It has been filmed and produced by ATV Productions (Vancouver) with colour commentary by Andrew Picard-Comrie. For those of you who watch motorsport, this is the same production house that has presented the 2006 Canadian Rally Championship series on TV.
Enjoy!!!
