Global TV will be airing the first showing of the 2006 Targa Newfoundland documentary this Saturday (January 27th) at 9:00PM in all time zones across Canada (but check your local listings). It will follow on Speed Channel (for U.S. viewers) later on in the spring but I haven't seen any dates for it yet.

Apparently the film this year is going to be quite different from the previous year's documentaries. It focuses more on the "motorsport" aspects of the event instead of being a "travelogue/tourism" type flick. Previous films did not show very much of the carnage since it was felt it would create a poor impression of the event in the eyes of the "anti-car racing" crowd. This year there is more crash info and competitor highlights. I have been told by Bob Giannou that there is an interview with my son Chris just after the crash! I wonder what he has to say about his old man's driving?

It has been filmed and produced by ATV Productions (Vancouver) with colour commentary by Andrew Picard-Comrie. For those of you who watch motorsport, this is the same production house that has presented the 2006 Canadian Rally Championship series on TV.

    Enjoy!!!

      vid!
Mike, I have now secured the footage. We had a bit of a challenge pulling this together. Apparently when they mounted the camera to my roll cage, it was upside down. Also, the first mini-DV of the raw footage was in high definition and I don't have a camera that could play it. The production house sent a second std. def tape and we were able to use some video editing software to flip the file images around. We'll have to hook up sometime and I'll show it to you.

Also, I have all of the pics that Andrew Harvey took of the car this year. They are all posted over on the 510 Club's website here:

          I missed it! Cr*p.

Did anyone record the Global program? I'd be happy to pay someone to ship me a VHS or DVD.

Ezzie, is your footage something a guy could get a copy of? I expect it would go best with a cold beer and a guided explanation of what was going on.

Let me know next time you're going through Edmonton and maybe that can happen.

          Cheers,
          Dan

            Dan,

Next time I'm in Edmonton I'll bring it along and we can watch it over a beer (or two, or three....)

                      Typing as I watch!

Technology (Outlook reminder) has triumphed over forgetfullness etc.

I was hoping to see a good shot of Ezzie's green 510 and was rewarded in the opening sequence with a shot of the 510 carving a corner followed immediately by a mini hitting the ditch. Nice contrast!

Anyhow, time to settle in and enjoy the show!

                      Thanks for the pointer Ezzie!
