  • Poll: would you like to see a jdm car dedicated forum a la GTRC?

    Hey guys,

Myself and a few friends in the automotive industry are thinking about branching out a little.

Its been brought to my attention a few times here that it would be nice to have a section of GTRC devoted to other car makes. It would allow the same kind of mature, controlled discussion of our favourite types of cars from Japan we see here, but as opposed to the concentrated discussion seen on GTRC we'd accept all other Japanese cars. A lot of us are J-car fans, not just Skylines, and a lot of us like myself have picked up other makes along the way which we're equally fanatical about.

Instead of just another forum located here, I am proposing an entirely new entity. A complete new forum and URL devoted to high-end Japanese performance cars.

I would also like to branch away from lower end cars. I think that segment is served well by many other sites out there so there's no need to compete with them. Instead, I'm looking at the type of cars that headline the Japanese industry: GTR, Supra, NSX, the upcoming Lexus LF-A to name a few. I would also like to encompass the VIP cars.

This is a major project, and one that will (and has already) drawn a lot of my resources. I would like to see if GTRCers would support such a thing and help make it a success.

Please vote and offer your suggestions.

    JZ

    I love the Idea!
We are all JDM car enthusiasts, and I'd love to read and see other GTRC members cars even though they aren't Skylines!

    1992 FD3S RX-7 Type-S

I like. It would open ground to people documenting future builds (ie. I have plans to JZ-convert a Toyota Cressida WAYYYY down the road, as in years down). Being able to do so would attract a large amount of the Canadian JDM scene, be it tech advice or more enthusiasts.

I would support it. I don't know how much i could contribute since i only plan on owning a skyline :P

I think a sub forum on this URL would be a good start, but I don't think it would attract a lot of new users because its called GTRcanada, which implies that its for GTR's/ Skylines.

So in order to get the most potential out of a different JDM genre in Canada, i think it would have to be a whole new forum and URL.

I am not particularly fond of you making it only high end and VIP cars because i know that I myself like to learn and talk about all JDM cars and the only other forum I found for Canada is DoriKaze and they are only Toyota. I wan't to learn/see/talk about other JDM's to that aren't only high end cars.

In the end its up to you which cars to make it directed at, but none of the less, I like the idea and i would support it

I like being able to talk about other cars but only high end sort of seems elitist and almost snobby to me. no offense. It would just feel like it would be hard to contribute unless you had the money to own and operate cars that were being talked about. Seems like it would be for an older crowd only.

I'm open to any suggestion for what kind of car to encompass. The only reason why I wanted to focus on the higher end cars (and its all relative... a lot of people think Soarers are ghetto) is mainly because there are a TON of sites out there dedicated to civics, wrx's, 240's etc. I am not trying to be elitist, I am just trying to carve out a niche thats not yet explored. I think it would be cool for Mk4 Supra guys to poke fun of fellow members with Mitsu 3000GTs for example, or the FD guy to go over why he likes rotarys over the RB. I should also say that maybe I shouldn't have used the term "high-end"...maybe more ground-up designed dedicated sports cars, not hotted up econocars perhaps.

Ah that makes more sense. can you change my vote then from "I dunno" to "yes".

              Thanks

i think its a great idea, a subsection of gtrc for non skyline jdms
i enjoy driving a rhd and am thinking of getting rid of my honda for
either a jdm lancer or subie, and i spend most of my time here anyway
instead of having to sign up on another site
understeer -is when you go off the road and see the tree that kills you
oversteer-is when you go off the road backwards and dont see the tree that kills you

Sounds like a great idea JZ, a lot of us have more than one car as well, and would also like to discuss other makes too. Since there are a lot of other cars become available for import recently such as Supras, Evos, Silvias etc as well as new models released in NA as well such as the IF, Z34, and the Evo X I'm sure there will be more need for mature forums for discussion.

I've been here for years and I don't own a Skyline..in fact, I don't plan on one in the near future. I'm here because the community is more open, friendly and knowledgeable than many other car forums out there.
My current car is J-spec and RHD, although it is not Japanese made. Can you keep a European/VIP section as well? You did say there would be a heavier focus on higher end cars, maybe you can allow us BMW/M-B/Porsche guys to play in your proposed forum?

I was thinking of any other japanese cars. As you said, there are a lot of forums for civics and 240's and stuff.

I was thinking about like older toyota's, just some, like i have a 82 supra. Or like Mitsubishi evo's and some Subaru's, no matter what the year or make.

It would just be nice to have a Canadian forum dedicated to Japanese cars wether they are LHD or RHD, and no matter is they are older or newer, higher end or entry level.

Hyundai Genesis would be a good niche group to target.
I like the idea, and if you need a moderator let me know.
