  • Does a Rally Driver look at Drifting...................

.........the same way a Hockey Player looks at Figure Skating ?

Haha...never thought of it that way but I could see it. I know I find rally more interesting than drifting...probably a good thing now that I've read your comment.

Probably more along the lines of how a Formula 1 driver looks at autoslalom.

Or how Jimi Hendrix would look at someone who can beat every song on Guitar Hero on expert.

i think you guys are missing his anaolgy(i hope thats the right word)

hockey players look at figure skating because ofthe finess and agility... some hockey players take figure skating courses to help with this...

rally drivers prolly dont look at drift racing the same way.... however, a drift racer prolly looks at rally like a hockey player does a figure skater...

an F1 driver prolly looks at kart racing

jimi hendrix(RIP) prolly would have a seizure if he were to look at GH... lol

as weird as it sounds, 2 out of 3 top level hockey players out here are huge into figure skating, and these guys arent fairies or anything. 6'4" 210 doing this stuff, it really helps with footwork, balance, and overall agility. I am taking this from Toronto youth hockey...idk about the rest of the world.

I have no idea where this hockey player taking figure skating lessons or something like that comes from. I have never heard of that in my entire life. I very much doubt that professional hockey players take any type of figure skating at all.

                      Maybe a Toronto thing?

                        ^

                        Agreed, wtf?

I played a high level of Jr hockey and never once heard of a guy taking figure skating, and I played with a few guys who are currently in the NHL. Have you ever seen a figure skater skate? They have a completely different technique. And I dunno if you have ever tried doing a spin in hockey skates .. pretty difficult. You show me the hockey player willing to toss on a pair figure skates...

Sorry for the OT, just an odd comment ..

Actually, your comments are right on topic

I guess I can clarify a bit more........

I don't believe a true SPORT is something that can be judged based on style/technique etc.

I personally don't consider Drifting a Motor Sport because of that and the reason I used the Hockey Player/Figure Skater annalogy.

A better annalogy would have been SPEED SKATER---->FIGURE SKATER.

With that said JD74 I completely agree with you...Drifting looks like a ton of fun and involves quite a bit of driver skill...but I can guarantee you a rally driver with practice could skool your typical drifter at his own game.
