Throw the test pipe on and see how you like it. I have no resonator, just a rear muffler, and it wasn't too loud. Car does run smoother with the cat instead of a test pipe in my case, though. I guess the stock ecu doesn't like all that flow :P

Ok so I didnt actually read your last rebuttal...

But what's the verdict? Did you conceit defeat?
    No he pretty much won.

you could always get a high flow cat instead of a test pipe, though the test pipe route is cheaper (but way less environment friendly)

as for a straight pipe, or even loud aftermarket systems...you might like the sound, but not everyone else will. It's just asking for bad attention.

trav, just put a res on line on my exhaust, arc down pipe, 3" piping to the fujitsubo res which is closer to the back, some more piping, and then the kakimoto muffler. it's really not that loud but you still get the sweet sound of the inline 6!

Test pipe is fine and dandy if you don't care about the environment. Its the lack of mufflers/silencers that really cause the loud irritating noise.

I had the welds on my cat break on me when I was in Richmond, Had to drive for about an hour with it dumping at the downpipe. Honestly, the most irritating drone I have ever had to endure. Cruising down the freeway at 2500-3000 rpm made me want to shoot my brains out.

I've heard my car with the cat and exhaust removed...yeah it was fun and loud but if i would never drive around like that. I'd have all my neighbours giving me "the douchee is home" thought every time i drive by. Something about a nice subtle, understated tone from an exhaust with at least some R&D put into it is fantastic...and then open it up and you feel like you opend up a can of woop a$$

Do you drive at 7000RPM all the time?

When the cop makes a point to say "any exhaust other than stock is illegal" your hooped either way my friend. It depends on the cop,and his attitude that day. Just wait.

    RB is not a Vtech

None of those are good rebuttals for my points.

    1. Reversing the first logic doesn't make sense at all.

    2. 7000 rpm or 1000 rpm, w/o mufflers cars are loud and annoying. Do you always drive in idle? lol 2000-4000rpm is loud enough.

    3. Just wait? I've put in 2.5 solid years of almost daily driving my car and never, ever, been pulled over for excessive noise. Lots of road blocks and never commented on the exhaust noise. Mine is after market and has been tested at 95dB at 3000RPM and 100dB at 6000RPM. To assume cops use attitudes to make something that's not obnoxious illegal is quite closed-minded. Just because you would be pulled over for open dump by a cop doesn't mean every other aftermarket exhaust will. And no, I ain't your friend LOL, don't patronize me.

    4. Vtec or RB, or any engine for that matter, loud exhaust tone is not favoured by the majority of population. Loud, obnoxious noise is a distraction to other drivers and pedestrians. You don't sound nor cool at all w/ an open exhaust that sets off every alarm in the block. This is the real world street, not some top gear footage or GT5. RB's aren't the god of all motors, oh please, there are many motors that sound better but would be annoying at ear drum shredding volumes.

Why pay money for exhaust systems when a straight exhaust sounds better than all of them
sure there's a chance of a V.I. but you run the same chance with any aftermarket exhaust

Tell me what's gay about that.
    Will do:

This is like saying why pay money for nice high end restaurant when you can just gitt'r done on garbage at a local buffet and water to bloat your stomach. Why not run a open dump right off turbo elbow? cheaper, lighter, louder and "sounds better" than a straight pipe. LOL!

It's HONESTLY loud. No I'm not going to say it's not loud when the noise interrupts with conversations within 10 feet. Sure it may not be as loud for you since it's just your ears getting worse from constant 110+dB. It may actually be quiet for you, but it sure sounds dirty and loud from outside the vehicle. A nice catback that you actually pay for (not even that much) have a nice resonance to it and keeps volume under 100dB.
There's a huge difference between "HEY LOOK AT ME OMFG! LOUD LOWWWDDD" and "hey i'm just letting you know if I open it up, you can hear where I am, loud." It's a street car, heck even race cars don't run open dump in most places.

This is not true because I've never been pulled over with my <100dB cat back and in fact officers have told me they are more concerned about those who are "obnoxiously loud and disturbing everyone for no reason." Also, what's the point of playing with the chance of the V.I when you could just get a nice catback for less than the cost of the V.I ? (you'll have to get the exhaust fixed to comply with the V.I anyways)

    Sounds a little backwards no?

Well I don't know if you watch South Park, but this is not the homosexual gay, but the really fuckingg annoying, attention whoring gay.

So yes, open dump, even with a turbo may sound great for the first 10 seconds for the giggle factor, but it gets old quick and becomes an annoyance for everyone on the roads. An aggressive deep tone from a well made cat back with mufflers turn heads slowly. An open dump without any sound suppression system makes heads turn with frowns and the automatic internal thought process: "what a fag."
