General rant against decline of properly modded vehicles

Totally agree. The one problem these days is kids read magazines and half-bake what they see in the pretty pictures in real life. I live in Sydney Australia and my R33 has a hybrid engine that's a Nissan RB30 3 litre block with a RB25 twin cam head which is putting out 437 kw at the wheels (That's 585 rwhp)... mind you, I spent almost AUD $1500 on a custom exhaust to make it sound like a factory unit... reason for this ? F*ckin pigs ! The cops in this part of the world loves harrassing people with modified rides, so from experience, the less attention the car attracts, the better.

Oh, just one other thing, I'm running a genuine Garrett GT35R turbo through a chinese-made fmic to make that 437 rwkw and it's been there for over 3 years.... the point is, just because it's made in China, it doesnt mean it's crap, you just have to know what's what.

If they wanna paint it monkey **** brown and set it on fire, they can do that.

Or if they wanna put an ugly body kit on.

Or if they wanna make 500hp and are poor. Guess what? Some of us making big power didn't do it because it sounds cool, we did it because we like fast cars. My $3500 rx-7 is faster than 99.9% of the cars on this site and when i built it $3500 was about 50% of my annual income.

Stop building your **** to impress other people and you'll be more satisfied with what you have, and care less about what other people have.

Also, straight piped rb's sound amazing. I had an open dump after my equal length downpipe and couldn't believe how incredible it sounded. And i didn't get the dump because i thought it would "sound cool" i did it because it made my car faster.

Most tracks have db restricrions as well, so a straight pipe will net you pit-time strapping on a cat-back at the very least.

As for modding, it's personal preference. The whole "if you don't have money don't mod" logic is garbage. There are Civics out there that spent less money on their ****-box that will take the average GTR in a straight line. I have a co-worker with less money into his Civic than I have into my car and he's running low 12's and gunning for 11's.

I'd take the "cheap-tuner who does everything himself (twice)" designation over the "checkbook-tuner" designation any day.

And yes, I have a GTR bumper on my GTS and I wouldn't have it any other way.

you know what, I think you are on to something here.

Full exhaust is like going bare back w/ a chick. Sure it's awesome but sometimes you have a thought at the back of your head; you're worried about that possibility of "what if she forgot the pills." You could **** up and be in a world of responsibility and pain.

Wrap it up, it won't be the same but I guaranteed you it will still be better than your sweaty right hand palm.

i love doublejceballos straight pipe in his GTST, it sounds deep and mean down low and nice up top. if i could get my hands on a exhaust controller i'd run a straight pipe.

i forsee a straight pipe with apexi evc for me too, just activate the evc when in my neighborhood so I still maintain some level of respect.

its funny, turboed08 had his gtr outside my house, running for about 3 minutes. in that time i had 3 people fairly close to me open the door and walk out, 2 of them giving me the hairy eyeball.
