I agree. I am voting for Conservatives, the least of three evils.

NDP is a terrible vote in my opinion unless you live off of government aid programs. NDP is Canada's answer to communism/socialism with social programs out the arse, the only problem is that those programs cost big money. I think the 30% tax I pay already is plenty enough but if the NDP were in power I could see that going up to 40% or more, screw that.
The Liberals are the typical spend spend spend party. Sure they wont raise taxes "too" much but they also dont save any rainy day money with all that spending they do. The last time they were in power they pissed away million's of dollars advertising their party in Quebec. With the economy being so fragile right now, spending excessively seems very short sighted.
The Conversatives are the corporate tax break giving tight wads. They help promote business by catering to them but also reign in spending to help boost our coffers. They usually lower or keep taxes the status quo but cut funding to social programs. Given the uncertainty of our markets Id rather have a party in power who is saving for tomorrow then one that is spending for today.

If we could vote to NOT have an election, I'd do that lol
If you're mad about another election, you should direct your anger towards the "Harper govt", considering the last three elections (including this one) were forced by Mr. Harper himself. In fact, in 2008 he actually broke his own election law to try for a majority. He brought this election on by being found in contempt of parliament. Never before in the entire history of Canada or the Commonwealth, has a govt been found in contempt of parliament; it is kind of a big deal. This is not the type of behaviour you want to reward by giving him more power. And don't think for a second he wasn't wanting an election -- regardless of what he says, he's been flooding all our TV's for months with attack ads (paid with your tax dollars, in the largest advertising blitz in Canadian history). But, since you're so concerned about wasting tax $$, why don't we look at his spending?

When Harper came into power, he inherited a $16 BILLION surplus. This was in 2006. By Oct 2008, he had already blown through that surplus, and we were $1.1B in deficit. Despite this, he went on record to lie to Canadians, promising "no deficit!" and "no recession!". Economists worldwide were already anticipating the recession, but Harper was willfully ignorant, telling us "the only way there will be a recession is if [the Liberals] are elected". Once the recession hit, Harper fought against the opposition & the G20, because he didn't want to spend money on the Economic Action Plan. Since he was in a MINORITY govt (and thus had his power controlled by the opposition somewhat), he was forced to roll out the EAP. Once he saw the success of the EAP, he promptly took full credit for it. Then began the marketing blitz: sinking millions of tax$$ into TV & internet advertising for the Economic Action Plan & the "Harper govt". Oh, and speaking of wasting tax money, did I mention he blew $32 MILLION on those stupid "Economic Action Plan!" signs alone? Yes, JUST THE SIGNS. Then he required each sign to be documented by photo, wasting countless man hours tracking & recording. This ridiculous overspending continued & now, 5 years later, we have the largest deficit in history: $56 BILLION. Now he tells us only HE is capable of removing the deficit he promised we'd never have. (Fun Fact: the last time a Conservative MP balanced a budget? 1889.) Everyone thinks Harper is a great economist, but he never worked as one -- he worked in a mail room for Big Oil & his "finance minister" worked as a crash injury lawyer before having control over our economy. Yes, cream of the crop, for sure.

Harper wants a majority because he requires unchecked power in order to impose his extremist right-wing agenda on Canada. If you're not sure what this would look like, look to the States under GW Bush. Harper idolizes Bush. Harper's policies are based on ideology, not research or information. In fact, he actively fights to muzzle scientists & the media, to make sure the truth is overlooked. And the truth is terrifying.

If he gets his coveted majority,
he will have full control over parliament (which gives him unchecked power over which bills/laws come into power or are rejected),
he will also have full control over the senate (which is supposed to be the "sober second thought". he's already stacked the senate & he will continue),
the RCMP (see the G20 mess),
the CBC (which he's been slowly defunding it ever since he came into power),
the justice system (most of our Supreme court justices are retiring within the next 4 years, which will be replaced by the next PM -- & Harper has already gone on the record claiming he thinks our Supreme court is too "left-leaning")
he will be the one to appoint the next Speaker of the House of Commons (this is important because it's the last "check" of power in the HoC, and the one who was responsible for the "contempt of parliament" finding)
This will give him complete, unchecked absolute power.

Before you hand him 4 years of power, with no checks in place, ask yourself this: can we trust Harper?
When he came into power, he promised us transparency & accountability in government. He appointed the "Integrity Commissioner" for internal govt whistleblowers/complaints. And we all saw how that turned out (200 complaints, 6 investigations, 0 charges. and a $500,000 taxpayer muzzle when the public got suspicious). Then he systematically broke every other election promise he made.

And the most ridiculous part? This ramble probably only covers 2% of the haggard, corrupt, undemocratic, illegal things the Harper govt has been up to. I hope everyone who is considering voting for Harper's Cons looks at the facts instead of swallowing the propaganda. Human rights are a lot easier to lose than to regain.

www.100reasons.ca < yep, there are literally over 100 haggard things Harper has done with his power
    www.unseatharper.ca < covers the basics

NDP all the way, the pendullem has to swing to the left every once in a while (it's been 30 years, we're due).

It's funny how people like leftist policies but won't vote left. The party system needs to die in this country anyway.

Dude, that thing is a good find. Pretty useful to sorta see a visual. Didn't really agree entirely with it, but not bad!

Big ISPs are monitoring but they need a warrant to divulge information. A warrant needs a lot of legal weight to pull through. As for shaping they just sniff the packet type and change the bandwidth accordingly; there's no information recorded. The conservative party doing their own monitoring, that's another story. It's somewhat unnerving to hear they kick out a young woman from an event for having a picture of herself and Ignatieff in facebook...

You have to understand that some things are private for a reason; it's because most of them can be open to interpretation, they can be circumstantial. That's dangerous if you're purposefully sniffing information.

Also I find it strange you bring out 9/11 when the CIA has had the whole population under phone wiretaps sniffing through computer scripting since the 1980s. 9/11 was an isolated event if you look at *worldwide* post-industrial history.

BTW, conservatives have been spending like madmen on themselves. The summit 1.9$M lake is a pretty damn big joke. Also look at their recorded electoral spending in any circumscription; they spend a lot more than the liberals. Add all their campaining and holy crap that could of kept some aboriginal people from starving from dehydration in remote locales.

Agreed, Harper is by no means perfect, but no politician is. It's really about picking the least of the evils, and in this case I think that's the conservatives. Either way it's going to be a conservative minority or conservative majority. I've always been leaning to the right, and I sure as heck know that won't be satisfied by the NDP being in power.

Keep in mind, if Harper would have a majority govn, your internet access would be monitored with no need of a warrant to get to your personal information. They've been trying 4 times now and failed by less than 1-5% margin.

I don't like Harper's 'police state' ideologies with the internet monitoring and his budget cuts in science. He's currenly censoring scientists like me and has caused outrage with high-ranking scientists by firing them or force them to resign when they were taking a stand on critical issues.

The problem is that people who are confortable are sticking with Harper because he's rubbing their backs by keeping the status quo (which is the definition of the conservative party). As for people like me, my worried about the decentralization of power and his questionable ethics when it comes to his party's expenses, morals and his personel's background.

Liberals aren't that much better, but for the love of god, at least keep Harper in minority by voting for his cousin party the NDP. Even if there's no way Layton gets elected, doing so will shift less power to the Liberals, and ensure Harper doesn't get majority. Basically it's going to stir the bottom of the barrel at the parliament and get some fresh blood at the top for when they duke out on issues.
