  • Some of it was timing, some of it is luck. I started off paying 380 a month. I was fortunate that it only took me 3 months to find insurance elsewhere (in fact I'm paying less now then I was paying for my Le Sabre). A lot of it was just talking and asking around.

But knowing the guys at RightDrive, I'm sure whatever their doing, its going to be a great push in the right direction.

    • I think the one constant in all of this is loyalty. If you've been with a company for x amount of years and youve been loyal to them, theyve been loyal to you, they should insure it. Let them know that you will go where the car is insurable, 9 times out of 10, they will work with you.

With that said, I think it has to be done in context. If you've been with a company for a year or two I doubt it will have any affect. My family is coming up on its 24th year with Allstate, so that I hope will make some impact.

As Spencer87 said it is right place right time as much as anything but persistence is also key. Also as Matty said there is no magical insurance company or method that gets Skylines insured anymore.

Loyalty is a big issue but insurability is bigger, my insurance company would only insure me if the car was stock and even with that it took my family's loyalty and the President of our broker firm to get it through. My actual broker could not get it through.

Like one of the poster said, Insurance = legalized rape. Hopefully things will change in future --> look forward to March
This is true, I had one company in the past I was at getting an extremely good rate at and as such I gave out my broker and insurance details to a bunch of people. Not 2 weeks later I have my broker calling me up telling me I have to bring my car in for an inspection(After 2 years of business) as they think its used for racing and modified(Which is was) and when I did they dropped me because of it. When i asked what caused this she said some people that I referred brought it to her attention that my car wasn't what she thought it was.

Basically they called my broker asked for insurance and they said no. They then proceeded to go well kyle has insurance with you and that is how his car is. I think you can tell the rest of the story.

Sadly because of this I don`t give out my new insurance company.

          • I called state farm and their willing to put a GTR under classic and only cover 3rd party. This does not include theft, fire, recovery, etc. It only covers if someone hits you and costs less then $200 a month. But if you want full coverage, it was $640 a month for me. I'm just not meant to get a skyline lol

                • Clarify there, if something happens while you're driving, they will terminate your policy because youre not 10yrs experienced (I think...)

                  • Doesn't matter who's name it's under for classic insurance. THE DRIVER has to have the experience they require.
If you tell them you're not driving it, thats FRAUD.
For yours and everyone else's sake here, don't do that.

Correct. As stated by RixR32, it's insurance fraud and the underwriter can deny a claim and terminate your policy in a snap. The only thing they can't get out of paying is an injury claim for any other people hurt/killed in an accident.

                        +1

If you get caught and charged with fraud not only will you have legal bills which will far outweigh any insurance savings but you will also be getting insurance for everything you own through Facility for their sky high rates for a long long time.

On a more macro scale getting caught with something like this would reinforce the opinion of the insurance companies that RHD owners are dangerous risks and should not be insured.

                        • My representative never mentioned that because as soon as she said theft, fire, and recovery are not covered I said I don't want it. Thanks for the heads up though

                            • Guy I know got nailed for driving without insurance (his car got smashed into). He had to pay $3500 as a fine (and that's getting off VERY lightly), and none of the damage to his car was covered. For the love of God, do NOT drive without insurance or drive something you shouldn't be (insurance fraud). It's just going to hurt us more
