I don't have any tickets it's all clean. Truthfully she seemed a bit lost. I had talk to a person previously that works their and I told her about buying a R32 GTR. She had knowledge of them and mentioned that "their every boys dream car". I'm going to call back with a VIN number and get quoted based on a specific car. Of course talking to the manager this time. I'll keep you guys updated. I'll probably call within this week or next week.

Thanks Brent. its not driveable but it has an RB and a vin plate so Im happy lol. Im thinking about taking off the honda for the summer months so I can insure this under my father, since as of right now it looks like I can only have one car insured under my parents the way things are set up. very conveniently i have an incredibly minor (screw holes in bumper -.-) at-fault from 2 years ago but i had accident forgiveness. So this means basicallly the only company i can get insurance through til the accident goes off my record is allstate.

please let allstate insure jdm-tyte whips!

I'm with a company called Economical. Full regular policy just as any other car on the road. I currently only have liability on it, awaiting an appraisal to get full collision. Only $650 or so for the year for liability.

Only thing is, that company doesn't deal with the public, you have to go through a broker for it.

...whens your renewal? My dads best friend works at economical, and he told me no dice for RHDs.

For those that have their car insured with RSA-Facility, were you required to get an appraisal? My broker just sent me a message saying that Facility would not renew my policy unless I had an appraisal done. I don't recall that this was a requirement when I first got it insured.

They were the first company I got to ensure my R33. When I got it insured (feb), it was required (I think she mentioned a stipulation on renewing it that related to an appraisal). Personally, I didn't like them. I'm just happy I only had to be with them for 4 months (my best experience with them was when they wiped my cancellation fees because I got insured elsewhere for less).

This is pure speculation but it sounds like they want to see any changes that were done.

I had a few issues getting someone to commit to insuring my car. I went to one of my parent's brokers, who basically insures anything (our boats, cottage, etc that major companies won't touch). He worked for about 2 weeks calling all the insurance companies he works with and was told all of those companies had RHD cars on their "we do not insure" lists. I find this ridiculous as they don't provide any further explanation. I wonder if there is some recourse to put pressure on them, or at least find out what their specific reasons for not insuring are.
                  Pretty disappointing...

We need to lobby against them. This is car-ism.

I talked with reps from both the Insurance Board of Ontario and the Ontario Business Bureau (or whatever it's called), and found that underwriters do not need to give any reasons or justifications for denying insurance, only that the restrictions have been submitted to the Board and are consistent for their customer base. Seems they are all following suit, leaving few options for us left.

I talked with my broker again today, and she said she had never seen Facility ask for an appraisal before renewing, and that it might be a recent change in their practices. Oh well...Bramhall Appraisals will come to my house and do it for $60. Luckily I haven't done much to the car yet so changes won't show up, unless they ask for a re-appraisal each year.

Urg. This is not cool. We definitely need someplace that's willing to insure RHD at a decent price.

just letting you know johnny, i bought my r33 this past march and had it insured through facility this summer and i had to get an appraisal done as well, so i would say that yes they probably changed there practices. right now i currently only have fire/theft on it for the winter months cuz theres no way id be paying 450/mth to have the car sit in my yard...dont know how its gonna work come renewal though, ill see come spring.

Well, called a broker out of Paris, Ont. and she was gonna check a few companies that she knew did RHD (her son had an RX7). The one company did do RHD (the other two didn't) but the Skyline itself was a "restricted vehicle"? That confused me. Apparently RX7's are cool, but not GTR's. Ah well. My search continues!
