Thats true, So what if the rb20 suddenly goes, get another one for dirt cheap. An blown Rb26 because of the oil problem or the #6 cylinder.....pretty expensive to fix. Besides, I come to realize, with a GTS-t, you can really hammer the skyline around corners and not be too worry about breaking things compare to the GTR, in which you are aware of the inherent problems of the pre93 GTR and perhaps easing up on the throttle.

My 240SX is my first car, prior to doing the RB20 swap, my mind was set on the RB26. I did a ton of research on the engine and I had saved up enough for the 26 swap. Then I decided to go for little rips in a GTS-t and GTR. The GTS-t had basic mods being intake, exhaust and an FMIC and was really quick, even running stock boost, another thing that got me hooked on the RB20 was the sound, it was just incredible. Next I went for a spin in the GTR, really fast, just had an exhaust, intake and boost controller. At the end of the day, the RB20 was really appealing, it has less problems and sounded absolutely amazing. I was never going to use the potential of the RB26 (that potential is to build crazy horsepower). The RB20 could build enough power to keep me satisfied and has some great, unique characteristics of its own. I'm glad I went with the RB20 ...I wouldn't change this engine for any other engine in the world! Anyhow, to each their own, everyone has their reasons for buying a car (or engine) they like most.

Yeah, not sure what got me but I spun a main bearing.

Oh well, not too worried about it now. I've got the crank collar on there, head restrictor, cylinder head drainback, sump baffle, etc, etc. Tranny is in decent shape and I put redline shockproof in it, next mod is going to be an OS Giken or PPG gearset for it though.

It's just too bad that I don't have the cash for nistune/pfc/aem and some Z32 MAF's right now and I'm going to be limited to about 400 WHP.

            Annnnnyways ahaha.....

I dont know where to start with mods on my car........ All I have right now is the exhaust done and the cat taken off, and the restrictor taken out... haha.. and upgraded air filters.. thats all...

            I'm thinking:

            Hard piping kit
Splitfire coil pack (or is it spitfire? hahaha)
            Bigger downpipe

......I dont know what else to do hahaha... my goal is to get around 450hp, and eventualllly down the road a lot more..

I just dont know where to start... what order I should go in kinda thing...

Ball bearing turbos, like Garrett 2860r-5 or -7's is what I think you'll need if you want to go at the 450+hp. The stock ceramic turbos dont go very far unfortunately, with a boost controller and stage one mods you're looking at 350hp or so. Of course new turbos wont be cheap, since you'll also need bigger injectors, high flow fuel pump, a retune ecu, engine management and while you are at it, might as well do the dump pipes, exhaust header and maybe a new intercooler kit if you want to put down some serious hp. A friend of mine is doing it right now at ztune, not cheap and its been a time consuming process but, well worth it.

The only thing fixed in the later RB26's is the pump drive, and there are VERY FEW RB26's around with broken oil pumps, but a LOT around with detonation and spun bearings.

Usually a spun #2 is caused by oiling, a spun #6 by detonation. But any cylinder can fail.

My last motor (R33) appears to have spun a main and number two rod which happened after a sustained 7,500 rpm 2nd gear corner and about five minutes hard running at or near redline. That being said I did have very brief audible detonation the day before after installing my Power FC that may have caused the initial damage that lead to the failure anyway.

                Moral of the story is:

                1) Do not EVER detonate your engine - get it mapped properly here (no Japanese aftermarket ROM tunes).

                2) Pour some extra oil in your sump (around 1/2 litre).

                3) If you want to run the car hard you MUST HAVE aftermarket pump, oil restrictor, aftermarket oil cooler, pan baffles, and increased sump capacity (don't do the deep sump, widen it or else you will smash it on something and lose all your oil!)

                4) An Accusump is a very worthwhile addition as well.

I don't think Splitfires are a good first or second mod to make, some people swear by the stockers even up to a high horsepower level.

I think a hardpipe kit and a downpipe would be a good way to go. You'll pick up 30+ horsepower just from those two mods.

My boyfriend is going to make me a downpipe this weekend (he does custom car parts like manifolds and downpipes and exhausts, etc etc so if anyone needs anything done contact me) ... hard piping kit will come eventually when I feel like spending 1000$ on one haha.

hard pipe kit wont cost that much. specially if your bf can make it himself. but it will make a whole world of difference. nothing sucks more than having to put back an intercooler pipe thats blown off at the track or even the street.
