Speaking as someone who have been driving a long time (since 1985), and who's been in the car scene just as long, I can say that real "car guys" are ones who knows their **** and are not prejudiced by blanket attitudes like auto trannies are crap, american cars are crap, pushrods are crap etc.

Every bit of automotive technology has its place in our universe and may be called upon as the application requires. Back in the day when I was into Z32's, our hero in the scene was Kyle Puckett's full bodied TT that used the Nissan auto tranny. Why? Cuz nothing can plant down the HP he was making reliably every weekend at every track. Period.

We all like to talk smack and trash the other guy but seriously, sometimes Skyliners have attitudes that I am embarrassed of. Assholes come in all shapes, sizes and sits in all types of cars.

sorry man, i just got rid of an 06 Civic....that POS couldnt touch my Skyline so this whole thing on Hondas...unless its got like 10k worth of crap strapped on the engine, then maybe yea...itll do some damage. With that being said...Stock Hondas are daily drivers, ill leave it at that.

        +1
The OP might be able to beat a Honda, but there're plenty of other cars that will beat a Skyline. Don't get cocky just because you think you have a fast car.

Another thing to remember is if you have enough time, money, and skill you can put any engine in any car (within reason). You would be surprised whats out there that will smoke a GTR. Take Manny's 900+hp malibu for an example, It would destroy any GTR in Canada maybe with the exception of McFly's when its done. It's more or less a sleeper til he opens the dump and starts blowing holes in the ground.

I can say from experience at lapping days and time attack that the driver is the biggest factor when it comes down to results.

lets go head to head (VS)

                2006-07 Civic Si
                2.0L DOHC N/A Engine
                197 HP
                139 TQ
                2945 lb

                1989 Skyline GTST
                2.0L DOHC Turbo/Intercooled Engine
                214 HP
                195 TQ
                1260 kg (2778 lb)

*Using the GTST Type-M compared to the Civic Si shows that not only is the Honda a tad heavier in weight, less torque....the only thing that things has going for it would be cornering. So basically at the track that honda may do very well as it is close in numbers, however...
If you have the RB25DET and/or RB26DETT these numbers jump signifigantly so how would this work out at a track?
                ahhh..u turbo the honda?:hit newb:

                  Leave it alone!

Okay, so what I'm reading is Hondas this Skylines that. Basicaly grown men pointing fingers and arguing. We are here for the fact that we love Skyline's, others not so much. Right. So why not just race the Prelude guy? If you lose you lose and if you win you win. Ima go off topic for a second here and let you know something. My buddy on here wesGTR, has obviously a GTR (RB26 DETT BNR32 and I always go freaky ass crazy when he drives up in his Skyline. So on Saturday the 21st he let me drive it. The feeling was like getting laid for the first time again. I could have died with that smile on my face and not have a care in the world. BUT, you know what he said to me after I was done driving it? "It's Just A Car" and when you think about, yeah it really is. So chill out everyone its all good. But I'ma be a hypocrite right now and quote this. "There Are Skyline's And Then The Rest Are Just Cars" LOL Dont beat me :bow down:

I agree with JZ on the attitudes of some Skyline owners here.

I bought my car because I like them and they are quick cars with lots of potential. But the attitude from a lot of people on here that they are the best cars on earth and that nothing else can touch them, even from some people that don't even own a skyline and probably haven't even driven one, gets a bit tiring.

Compare a brand new SI to a much cheaper GTS-T all you want, but an EG hatch with a B18C1 and a few suspension mods and some upgraded stock brakes would romp on a GTS-T and probably be an even match for a near stock GTR on a road course. And it would do it for 1/2 the price, probably be more reliable, and get more than 16 MPG driving around.

Okay, so why don't you compare something in the same price range then? A 25-30K new car built to be a sedate pedestrian hauler for the most part vs. a GTS-T isn't exactly in the same category.

Hondas and all cars are getting bigger, it's a fact. R32 GTR = 3000-3100, by the time they got to the R35 they're nearing 4000 pounds.

Take a 10K GTS-T vs. a 10K EG civic and see how you do. To make it fair, compare a GTS-T to a JDM SIR, with a B16 and decent suspension stock. Why say stock for stock when the GTS-T is much older, cheaper, and weighs less. Like I said, take a 10K GTS-T vs. a 4000-5000 dollar EG with a few grand in mods and see how they do.

I think you're one of the people that need to get their head out of their ass.

this is something so many people don't think about. modifying a car isn't always about pure HP and speed. It's about taking the stock form and trying to improve upon it. Like many have all ready said a small hatch back civic with the right mods is a wicked little track car. That being said, i drive my car because of the feeling i get while driving it, not because it's the fastest out there (which it is far from) I would still rather be on a track driving my GTR even if i'm getting passed by a honda.

I actually saw at the TO auto show a few years ago a 1993 Honda del Sol with an RB25DET in it. Thing was amazingly done, guy sold it on ebay. It just goes to show you can put anything into anything with the right amount of skill. I have actually wondered what it would be like to put the ATTESSA system and RB26DETT into a del Sol... I loved that car, not fast, but it drove nice, and was convertable.
