I've done about 50 launches at 7000 rpm (20 or so at a dragstrip with a pile of VHT on it) and the stock tranny is still alive. Ya just gotta be smooth and methodicle with shifts and clutch engagement. The strip run in my sig was a 7500 drop. Street run was at 6000 to minimize wheel slip, hooked well and spun all 4 (in a controlled manner) to 8000 in 2nd gear, grabbed third (didn't pop) and spun 'till about 7500.

I need a new clutch though, so the whole plan to upgrade might have to come sooner than later. I've heard some really great things about Cryo treating. Mikroniting is supposed to be the Bee's Knees too.

Launching doesn't seem to break them (thank god, it's soo much fun)

I likely had over 100 launches on my car between the two trannies and 1st gear still worked like it was brand new.

I have no idea if cryoing works or not (seems to be some arguments both ways) but for how cheap it is I figured why not.

I think someone should pick up one of these liberty boxes and see how well it works. I'm sure it's heavier than the stock unit, so are all the other transmission options... can't defy the laws of physics. bigger gears are heavier.

I think the ratios on the T56 will work really well with 4.1:1 gears behind it like the R32/33 have; I have also heard you can get a box with a shorter 5th and 6th (6th still being longer than the skyline 5th, but not 0.50:1 like the stock T56 gear)

Hey Terrh, you got a link or some updated info about the Viper tranny. Starting to really get serious about a major upgrade.

also interested in the viper trans or another route thats cheaper than a ppg set but stronger than osg. also while on the subject of drivelines some of you that have upgraded gear sets how have your axles faired? mine not so much and im running a measly 512awhp on low boost for now.

Haha, I'm guessing my drivers side axle is going to blow once I'm over motor break in. My plan is to keep an extra set around. Is there even any reasonable upgrades for axles?
Dang! You got shocks, pegs... Lucky! You ever take it off any sweet jumps?

I think HKS sell upgraded shaft's. Or ask driveshaft shop, as they can upgrade joints on stock driveshaft or probably custom make some driveshaft's.

i have a 6 speed getrag , Pretty simple swap IMO

nothing too hard ,,,, GETRAG tranny are for EVERYONE and they are way better then OEM R32-R33 tranny !!!

ive seen RIPS r34 runs 9 sec pass all day witH STOCK R34 getrag box !

                  800 whp no problem !

I have a different opinion than some of you guys

                  Cost me total of
3500 tranny complete 20 000 km *like new*
2500 clutch nismo twin coopermix competition model
1000 driveshaft driveshaft shop allu 1 piece
new tranny mount , clutch line , and thats about it 7000$ Ok instead of 12 000 that RHD JAPAN ask and they give u a OEM nismo driveshaft 2 piece !

7000 $ for a 6 speed tranny that can handle 700-800 hp IMO is Great value
(tranny is quiet compared to a tranny with striaght cut gears IE ppg dogbox)

on a real note. it's apparently been mentioned and covered that getrags arent that strong.

Hug it out guys. Getrag trannies are definitely a step up from oem r32 gear boxes but everything else mentioned in this thread seems to handle much more then what the getrags are capable of, and for a longer time. There are many YouTube videos and posts on other forums about anything straight cut, and how they are, in fact, quite streetable

getrag wont hold 900-1000hp ur right but iam not going over 600 whp ennyways wont even hurt the tranny ! if i go 1000hp then OK i will go wit a OS-88 gear box end of deal

This thread has some great information/ideas on transmissions but has been tainted by some rather sharp outbreaks of anger/hostilities/turets -

So rather than lock it and delete all the disrespectful posts I have elected to edit some posts to help focus on the discussion and less on the aggression. Please keep things civil !

I have also heard that they don't want to shift above 8000rpm. That's what I have heard anyway, what I know is that the TKO600 and some other Tremecs don't want to shift above 6500ish rpm and that includes the T56s and dirivitives of it.

I hope that the Viperised Tremec 6speeds have the tripple cone syncros in the first 4 gears or I don't think they will be too happy shifting above 7000rpm either.
