New guy looking to buy a GTR, is it the car for me?

I dot have any intention to mod anything besides intake and exhaust. As for maintenance/reliability, anything more I can add to this list?
Oil pump drive
Gaskets
Bearings
Seals
Metal head gasket
Fuel pump
Timing belt
Boost/oil pressure gauges
Coilpacks

If you have stock turbos then at least a steel wheel rebuild eventually is good peace of mind (factory ceramics tend to get brittle with age) (might be easier to just get some used turbos)

mafs can tend to wear out so at least be ready to clean and resolder the contacts inside.

as for the bearings, if your talking wheel bearings ya maybe but I couldn't see you needing to do your main crank bearings. Especially if your not planning on getting alot! More power out of it.

Brake lines and fuel lines aren't a terrible idea either. Rubber gets old fittings get loose maybe I'm just paranoid but I want to replace everything that can wear and fail.

it's just like any other car in the world if you maintain it and don't beat on it then it's not gonna be too bad to you.

Also if you do the timing belt (and get a kit that comes with a tensioner and idler pulley) a water pump and thermostat and coolant lines aren't a bad idea either since it will be easy to get to with the rad out.

Well the turbos might cost you a little bit. If you just stay with low mount turbos, you can use factory manifolds and save a ton there. (no huge rush but just eventually you will want to think about it)

The wheel bearings only need to be replaced if they are failing so its not like you need a rush or to even think about it until its needed.

The mafs you could do yourself but again if it's working no need to "fix" it ( if your bored though it's not a huge job that might just be preventative maintenance)

The whole timing belt kit is like 240 bucks and again you can do that yourself.

These are things that can go wrong but don't be worried about it and think your car is a ticking time bomb cause it's not. Well probably not lol.

I searched up the steel wheel swap for the turbos and IIRC someone on gtrc paid $1400 for it.
The first things though will definately be oil pump, timing belt/water pump, Coilpacks, gauges, Thermostat, fuel/brake lines, And might as well clean the maf sensor too. Assuming i do all the work, that should be <$1500 if im right?

Ya you can buy a pair of used ball bearing turbos for less than that so I would recommend go that route.

Ya just depends what exact parts you buy. If your going to do the oil pump, you will want to read into the oil pump drive issue. There is a little more to it then just the pump. It's the oil pump drive itself that is a tiny bit smaller than the gear on the pump which, when smashed off the rev limiter "shocks" the oil pump which can damage it. You can get a full read up on all of this on the forum or even just google "oil pump drive issue" soooo. Since you have not bought your car maybe look for a 1993 or after r32 (issue has been fixed on these models) then you don't need to worry about the oil pump and if your staying close to stock power, then your good to go

Also go for the yellow jacket coil packs as most ppl on here use and recommend these with no failures to my knowledge.

Okay, I'll try to find a GTR that's 93+ for the oil pump drive reason and also because I read they have other improvements over the older ones. I really appreciate your help gtrjerry, as well as everyone else who posted in this thread. It's been very helpful for me and I'm sure it will be for others as well. Now I just need to buy one!

Go with the subi... your list, while exhaustive, its a little too much. I'm thinking you're constantly gonna worry about little things and you don't seem to have an preference towards GTRs. Like for your turbos. The ceramic wheel is on the exhaust side so you might as well just run it at stock pressure until it pops the wheel and THEN start looking for a replacement.

No need to lose your head over things like this if you don't plan to track. I have the original OEM headgasket and I'm running 170 across the board at 130000kms btw...
