As for the engine I believe the NUR comes painted this color. I think I'll keep it as it seems to match the color of the car close enough

PS: Futureshot of engine bay

Yes that's basically what I'm doing. I'm cracking it open before it goes in and putting arp bolts in the rods and head. I'm also installing a hks metal gasket first as part of it. I figure it'll hold up with a well balanced crank like that and nur internals.Originally posted by flipridah17 View Postsorry so are you selling your old engine and put in a NUR SPEC engine?
No I am not buying it from Daryl. No offense intended here Daryl, I'm sure your engine is awesome too :P. It's just a customer loyalty thing.
Adam at feast.

Update Feb10th 2008,: Removed the downpipes with the help of a meaty breaker bar, a 1 foot extension and a 14mil nut. Popped off so easy I couldn't believe how much energy I wasted before.
Tomorrow: Drop of entire exhaust to be sent to muffler shop for custom testpipe to be fabricated with flanges and full size resonator to be removed.
Dropping of Transmission and driveshafts.
Looking good! Engine should definitely be on its way out shortly. Delay because of lack of tools getting the damn downpipes off.
Engine hoist will be delivered tomorrow to lift engine off mounts to better access transmisison, will probably have full engine pulled next weekend (with any luck)

Let me know how this goes. I'm having issues getting the motor high enough to clear the motor mount studs so i can move it forward. The trans is disconnected and seperated 1/2" and the drive axles aren't an issue so im thinking it might be the spindle in the trans holding it up:roll:Originally posted by kelaog View PostEngine hoist will be delivered tomorrow to lift engine off mounts to better access transmisison, will probably have full engine pulled next weekend (with any luck)
Edit: what you should do is A: pull both engine/trans at the same time or B: use the hoist to hold the motor, put a block in between the motor and subframe, and take out the motor mount arms completely which is what i'm going to try.

Mmm Idon't want to take the tranny out with it. Limited garage space. I'd rather leave it on the floor lol.Originally posted by Ben View PostLet me know how this goes. I will keep this posted no worries. I'll also throw some pics up tonight of how under the car looks.

Update: Couldn't get the tranny out yet. Still more work to do in the engine bay, we need to remove the oil cooler lines from the block before we're moving the enigine around. My car has a lot of electronics kicking around so it makes it difficult to get at. Therefore we're moving them all out and will reconnect later.
Now we're pulling the intake plenum off before we tackle the oil filter plate to make things easier later. That is a b**** to get at the bolts with
Next weekend will show some more progress. Didn't have a lot of time to work on it today.

I hate shameless plugs, but:
XS Throttle Shaft Seals
New engine, gaskets, and hoses are all great for a 17 year old car. Keep in mind those factory rubber throttle shaft seals are just as old. I would hate to see you spend all that time installing the engine and end up with a hard to find vacuum leak. New throttle shaft seals are cheap insurance. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions.Eric Hsu

Update, oh I know how you love these...not :P No pictures yet. I'm going to save them for when the new engine arrives and then I'll post vids/pics of it being built up :P and dropped in.
So anyways, progress report is as follows. I got the cat out after 2 hours of struggling with seized bolts. One came off after a good soak of this lub that smells like bananas and a breaker bar. Still was a PIA with the breaker bar. The other would not spin, it would only strip. After a while I took a hack saw to it and sawed off two sides of it and then bent both sides down and hit them with a hammer to spin the bolt off. So Cat and downpipes are now off the engine. We're ready to remove the transmission. Previous day we removed the intake manifold to get at the oil filter adaper plate for the hks oil cooler.
Looking good! Engine is coming out right after the tranny is out. Adam hope you're ready for my order :P. We're getting close!
