  • but in 4 years, 1989's are legal again lol
    There's a catch..

Exportation companies in Japan will put priority in the hands of US importers. Those smart enough to withhold 1989-93 GTRs and GTSTs in Japan did so for a reason; the US market has never seen this car, prices can be fixed as they were when they arrived in Canada. Remember, GTR's went for as high as 20 some odd thousand in Canada when they first arrived. If Skylines were still available in Quebec, they'd be at a reasonable cost; inflation has lowered and stabilized.

Now, in terms of US markets that boast a population approx 7 times our own, meaning, more interest in these vehicles per capita than in Canada. This also means that they can fix prices higher, as interest will lead to bidding wars, and eventually a peak inflation will be reached as it once was here. If we take into account the amount of people interested, cars alloted or even available, we're talking 25,000$+ in some cases for grade A cars.. If exporters can grab a little extra $ by selling for a few bucks more to their US importers, they will, meaning left over stock of R32 Skylines will likely never see Canadian soil, especially Quebec.

This is merely speculation on my behalf, but that's just how i see it.. If i were in import/export, i wouldn't hesitate to cut Canada out of the picture to make a decent buck.. Japanese imports in Canada are in circulation; their main thing to establish now is a good parts market and labour to fill the steady demand. The states is about to bloom, and there has been excitation over this for years, it will be 4-5 years of solid revenue...

Actually, interest per capita isn't necessarily higher in the states. To calculate that, you'd have to survey the entire population to gauge interest. In fact, we'd have to assume interest per capita is approx the same, making TOTAL interest higher.

Also, It's not canada that we're talking about, it's only quebec that cant has the 25 year rule right now. With all the jdm car shops that have been out of business for 2 years, im willing to bet they will pay premium rates to have stock on 1989 vehicles again. How else will they survive?

Simply based on speculation of another ousting by the QC government, these shops may be hesitant to draw back into the market so soon. I can only imagine the reaction of the QC transport ministry when the 25 year law has breached QC's "RHD 'ban'".. They'll exercise any law imaginable to cease another wave of imports as they've already managed to do.. If they're crooked enough to skew statistical tests and rub them in our faces, they'll be more than happy to find alternative ways of crushing an already dying market. Not to mention, we've already seen the state of these shops. Will they even last another 4 years? I think that QC would be willing to turn a blind eye if the imports were regulated, as if to say shops in QC dwindled down to 1 or 2. At least this way there's some sort of buffer zone to prevent mass amounts of imports being dumped onto our roads.

And i would only suspect interest in the states to be high based solely on the number of S chassis interest. Of course these people may go to the s13/180's etc. But once the Skyline's are available there may be a change in heart..

Mehh we'll see.. I'm just happy i have my car and not in the market to buy. It's too stressful to see where this is headed.. Qc is such a dump ..

        • speaculation, speculation, speculation!!!!

They cant really outlaw them completely, because there are people who want to bring in vintage rolls royce's and such. I dont think they will make those people suffer because they're trying to discourage japanese imports. I agree that it will be more expensive and more difficult to find another one in the future, but we'll see. I havent sold it yet

          Now stop polluting my thread!

            • Went back to the dyno yesterday, as I changed one of my mafs and it threw off my afr. After an hour on the dyno, I ended up with 460whp and 400 torque at 21ish psi... still need to sort out some boost controller issues to make it hold boost more evenly and not drop off. Im sure that with some tinkering I'd pull another 10whp at the same boost with better settings....

On another note, I finally solved my car dilemma. I decided to take the skyline project and put it on hold for a while... how long? who knows. maybe years. I realized that all the things I have left are big jobs... paint job, restoration, brakes, suspension... etc. and nows not the time for me to dump all that dough into a toy. I ended up leasing a new car, should be here in a week or two... all i'll say for now is that its japanese, 4wd, turbo, and practical lol.

                  • yeah i was surprised! I gained about 25 lb/ft from my last dyno, with not much more boost. looks like Almasi leaned out the bottom end of the powerband from the look of things, when i compare my final run from this time, to the last time.

                        • from 6500 to 7450 your at ~400whp
the blip to 425 at 7500 is a dyno graph error, robin confirms
                          post the chart...

its not where you are at the end of the graph that counts, its the highest peak
a RB always makes peak HP at ~6700rpm
