  • Ricky Ricer's Rice Rice BABY!

I figured I should post this here: Some of you may have seen my RB-Z thread, which I decided to scrap. My lust for the red R won out. I posted the Z for sale and started GT-R hunting. I had originally wanted to buy a black R32, as they were the cheaper generation. I was searching for one from probably March to June. Until I found the car I thought I would one day very soon own. It was a 1996 R33 GTR, grey market, in midnight purple. I talked with the owner quite a bit, and decided on a date to go look at it. I was heading to Japan for two weeks in July and my original plan was to fly to Newerk and check it out on our return flight. As things would have it, I would not end up buying that car. The motor blew, it had rust everywhere, and I never even flew to Newerk to see it.

I was surfing the internet the night before our flight to Japan, and I found a Super Clear Red R33 V-Spec. I about crapped myself when I saw it. 26,000 miles, all the right mods, and it was a MotoRex Skyline! For those that don't know, MotoRex is the company that was shut down for importing Skylines and not ensuring their DOT compliance. Google "MotoRex and the North American Skyline Fiasco" for a good read. But back to my story, I immediately emailed the owner, and hoped someone else had not already claimed the car. The next morning I had a text asking me to call him so we could talk about it. $1000 deposit later, and I was the closest I'd ever been to owning my dream car. 10 days in Japan suddenly lost its appeal... (I did get to touch the Calsonic R32 )

On our return flight after an awesome trip to Japan, my GF and I were bumped on our flight back to Houston. So we ended up buying one way tickets from Narita International to Washington Dulles. Something I NEVER want to do again. Met the owner, really cool guy (he let us stay at his house and bought a ton of booze haha), and finally the next day I bought my Skyline. Here's a list of mods, and a few pictures. I've done some subtle changes to it in the last few months, and have many more planned. Thanks for reading.

Ya man and I'm loving the color. Should be nice. Do you have any major plans for it yet like a full rebuild like the z?

Eventually I will want to go for big HP, but for now, I just want to get my turbos in and get a good tune. It's in immaculate shape and I've just been buying small things to improve the interior and what not. Just the little pieces that wear over the years. Stupid fake rubber interior pieces are starting to get sticky and horrid looking. That's next on my list.

Oh man the first thing that went in my R33 was the pos rubberized finish on all my interior panels and the crap shift/e-brake boots. 15 years of japan just killed them lol. I would suggest wet sanding off the rubberized finishing or heating it up with a heat gun(it peels right off) to remove it. I then used a matte black duplicolor interior trim paint and it's been perfect ever since. It cleaned up my interior soooo much, especially with the genuine leather shift/ebrake boot off ebay for $30:P

Thanks Matt. I'll probably do that to the car this weekend if the weather holds out. I did it on my old Impreza and it came out very well. I'll post more pictures soon.

I just peeled off all that rubber coating too, going to wrap it all with CF wrap.

I'll be installing my HKS 2530s this weekend. Should be interesting I'm going to give the ebay braided oil lines a go. Hopefully they work out well, if not the car will be sitting for a week or two. I really just bought them for the oil restrictors as a precaution. Might fix my worn interior trim as well.

That is a very nice 33, congrats.

In your first post you said you scrapped the "RB-Z" build? Would that happen to be an RB into a Z32? Cause if it is, I'm in the middle of doing one, and why did you decide to scrap it, although I can prob figure out why.

I was doing it into a 240Z. I just couldn't see it fulfilling my needs as the GTR has.
