So couple days ago I noticed that when I was driving really slow it sounded like my front right brake was grinding or something. If I drive a bit faster (50km+) it doesnt grind but it squeels or squeeks (only noticeable outside the car). Im not a very good mechanic by any means, so im wondering what could be going on? not sure if this is a normal sound if they are just worn down, since it sounds like its clamped down a bit?

The brake dust shield is possibly rubbing with your rotor. Try bending it back. If you were to take the wheel off and look at the rotor, the dust shield is located behind it.

Sounds like a small rock has been flicked up between stone shield and rotor. Usually they dislodge, but somethimes they don't.

          Similar problem?

I have a squeak too. Only mine is on the rear passenger brake. I only hear it at lower speeds, and as soon as I touch the brake peddle the squeak goes away. Release the brake peddle and the squeek comes back.

Thought I i'd post here rather than create another thread.

mines like a grind but not constant at low speeds.. its like grriinndddd(silence)grriinndddd as it turns slowly as if it wasnt an even surface. If i go faster the deep grinding noise isnt there but its replaced by a high pitched squeek/grind which i cant hear inside but i can hear outside (when driving beside curbs or cars etc. The noise is also there when I am braking, so really im not too sure..

jack the side up that is making noise and free spin it, it may be the bearing.

Or a warped rotor....shaving a little bit from each sides is an easy fix.

That would make alot of sense in my case. I was thinking the hub bearing too but since the noice goes away when using the brakes...

If you have a brake lathe at home.....

Don't mess with your brakes unless you know what you are doing. It's the last thing you need to have failing because of bad E-advice. Take it to a service station if you have to. Don't go killing a bunch of kids because you "thought" you could cure bad runout yourself.

Now, occasional squeaks, grinds can be as easy as rust build-up or rocks in the pads. What pads are you running? Does it take some heat until it makes the noise? Find the source of the noise..

Of course I wouldn't do this my self. I'll get this looked into next time my car is in the garage. I'm not overly worried because it has no effect on brake performance. Just really annoying in rush hour traffic.
