  • Car started 3 times, then dies?

Okay so I put in all fluids nicely, hooked up the battery, turned it onto ACC and let everything prime up before I turned it over. I turned it over and it started up flawlessly, there was a ticking noise coming from the front of the car but it was a plastic piece on rubbing against the belt. So i turned it off, the plastic piece fell off and away, so I tightened the nuts that hold the water pump pulley on. Turned it back on and it was fine, let it run for about 20 seconds then I turned it off again.

Went to turn it back on one last time for giggles and i got "...click..click click.." I tried again and same thing, all lights come on the dash but it just clicks when I try to start. tried with the clutch in and same thing. Thats when I looked under and noticed a nice pour down of coolant. I dont think the two are related.. but.. who knows.. Here are the videos..

    first turn on:

    second:

It is important to note that I started the car after video 2 and it sounded perfectly normal. The plastic piece on the belt had broken off at that point and went elsewhere. So it sounded normal but i wanted to re-do the video without any odd noises, cue in video 3 where i go to turn it on, and all it does is click

    third:

    fourth:

pull the plugs and see if a cylinder has hydrolocked
Maybe my speakers are amplifying the knocking but something sounds very off. What did you do to the engine while it was out of service, was the timing belt off at all?

      everything i took out:

      Intake kit
      CAS
      Valve covers
      Cam gear cover
      Intake tubing to turbos
      Coolant/oil lines to turbos
      FMIC
      BOV + recirc lines
      Radiator
      Battery

all that is back on now.. but like i mentioned i turned the car on a third time but didnt tape it and it sounded perfectly fine, there was no clicking noise from the plastic piece. Then i wanted to make a fourth video with no plastic hitting a belt and then it make that click noise in the 3rd video where it doesnt turn over at all. Oh and the timing belt was never off, and I marked with marker on the CAS cover where the screws should be..

That clicking sounds like your starter.

          whats your battery level

and at what voltage is your alternator charging when the car is running?
          it should be above 14V

you may have been running with your battery only if your alt is dead and it is now empty

update: got home from work and cory, he fixed the coolant leak (turns out i loosened that bolt to get everything else in and forgot about it). So next we tried tackling the starting issue, only now it starts.

theory: coolant got onto the turbo manifold and might of spread elsewhere causing the electrical *snap* you hear in the one video. Seems to run fine now but still having a few small issues with the car.. but at least it is running..

here is the ticking noise.. sounds like something vibrating on the turbo side.. ?

Not a vibration, sounds like something is hitting something else.

                1. Kind of sounds like one of your belts are slipping.
                2. Turbo problem. (exhaust wheel?)

                You making any boost?

I didn't boot it too hard since my tire is pretty low, but I did get up to 10PSI on half throttle. It seems the noise only comes on when the engine is revved a bit higher or boost kicks in?

I would think that there is now play in one of your turbo turbines. Can anyone confirm this theory?

It sounds like the exhaust wheel or compressor wheel are hitting the side of the housing when you hit boost. I am not 100% sure, but thats my guess.

how would that happen though? i didnt even touch the turbo's all winter and they were completely fine when i parked the car... thats going to suck balls if a turbo just went for no reason.. ?
