  • has anyone had work done to their gtr at whitehead perfomance in north york?

    hi guys,

i have just recently picked up my gtr r32 from this shop where it was since june 22,

i was just wondering before i tell my story of how bad my experience was... if there is anyone who was treated fairly and were pleased with the quality of work done at this shop

i thought i had done my research before going to this specific nissan specialist and dropping close to 15k into my ride

    Lets hear your story bud.

Although i didnt have any work done by them on my GTR, I've heard good things about whitehead.

well... im not the kinda guy who wants to trash anybody... and i was interested to hear if anyone has been treated well from them

but who cares at this point... they have my money and my car isnt right and they arent being fair with me now..

i bought a r32 skyline off a chap near wasaga... the car was needing an engine swap as it had a bad knock..

so i picked up this car and delivered it to whitehead the same day... that was june 22 2012
they stayed late and brought the car in for me.... and at the beginning the experience with whitehead was actually pretty cool

over the next few weeks we made a plan to go at the car... to do an r33 engine swap with timing belt replaced, waterpump, fuel pump, injectors, hks turbos, exhaust upgrades, bigger innercooler, tuning... all that they felt the car needed to give me 450whp

i was under the impression that they would be starting work on the car soon and i would have some of the summer left to start driving this car...

two months go by and they still havent located an engine yet.... i know there are lots of engines around the gta because i was going to every shop and looking for more performance upgrades for my car...

so.... fast forward to the first day im there to pick up the car....

i drive there with a friend to pick up the car so we both took off the day from work to make this happen... i get there early so i can see the car on the dyno and have the experience of watching it perform after paying the shop

well i wait from 2pm till 6pm and im not allowed to see the car at the tuners...they didnt have the car ready when he said it would be,
so i leave there not being able to pick up the car (its over an hour drive one way, for me to go their shop)

so now.... a week and half later... the car is ready for my pick up
so i go there with hopefull intentions and excitement to finally get my car back

and this time i find out that they had damaged the left hand side of the car and that its still sitting in primer....
the clutch is growling, the front end is making all sorts of clunky noises(technical term, also i had paid to have the car fully accessed and to repair any issues especially in the front end)

the car isnt hitting high psi... it isnt fast, it looked like a mexican hotrod and i just picked up the car....!!!!

we are now into october now.... so 3 1/2 months of great summer driving

there was a bunch of other stuff that didnt work out... im not sure if its even worth going into....

but i was very dissapointed with what i received for all my invested time and money

so im stuck with a car that apparently hit 420whp... but even that is shady (i was first told it hit 444whp then he changed his mind) my friends with dynoed cars that they watched on the dyno hitting around the 300whp mark are just as quick as my car

the car sputters under high boost like it isnt getting enough fuel, it totally cuts out when i take on ramps and try to speed up....
the car even died in a parking spot on me yesterday leaving me stranded..... and very frustrated

i dont know what to say... i really like the owner of the shop.... but the guy who was in charge of working on my car really didnt follow through on his promises

and now im having to pay more money to a more local shop to inspect the work, install a wideband sensor and gauge, have it re tuned, and have it taken for a dyno pull... which this time i will be present...

i dont know if this is all normal stuff.... the guy who was taking care of my car says this is all normal stuff... and it takes many times coming back to make the car run well.....

i sure didnt think that this is all normal stuff when your dropping huge coin.... and going to what i thought was the best shop in toronto for gtr's

do you guys know of any shops who are really good with rb26dett's?
because its almost winter... and my car needs help

I know how you feel! I've been through a not so good experience with the guy who built my rb26... It took almost 10 months and 10 grand to get the car back. The cash I was giving him to buy parts, he was spending it to pay his bills. That's why it took so long... But once the engine is all over the place, it's not time to take it back to another shop... He told me several times that the car was ready to go but everytime I went to pick it up, there were always something wrong with it... 2 months after I got the car, there were a major oil leak: he told me it wasn't his fault!!?? And he didn't answer my call anymore after that. I discovered that the leak was coming from the oil pump gasket that has been screwed too tight then broke. What a pr*ck!

I have to forget about all this semi-nightmare 'cause my GTR runs well now and she's pretty fast (nice moneypit tho)

We should start a thread about bad experiences members have encountered with different shops they made business with...

One question: do you have the stock 444cc yellow top injectors? If so that's an lol for his 444hp comment, that's pretty much the 1:1 ratio for the HP:CC rule of thumb.

Also it would explain your sputtering, because pushing the injectors that hard is a no-no.

I had a local friend with a datsun 280z get a quote for a rb25 swap into his car, it was over $15000 , he asked about a RB26 swapped , they told him $25000. I advised him to walk the other way.

Shop i'd suggest going to is PUR auto for tuning , ask for stan - he hasnt tuned mine but i have dealt with Vlad and stan and they are friendly , full of advice and do alot of work on skylines..

the injectors i ended up going with were the nismo 650 injectors.... they wernt cheap... but they fit into the stock fuel rail

i gave them a fuel rail as welll capable of 1000hp... but they wanted $500 in install it on top

                $500 to install a fuel rail ?

Also as a general rule on an average rb26 engine , 444cc injectors on an engine supplying fuel for 400+ hp will probably be at around 100+ IDC at redline that is hideous . anything over 80% IDC is really pushing it .

500 is not that much to install a fuel rail. Can it be done cheaper? Yes, but to switch fuel filter onwards all over to -AN and get a different fuel pressure regulator...

Well if you are talking about installing a new fuel system along with the rail then sure , $500 is cheap considering how much jerking around it takes.

does anyone know the limits of a stock fuel rail.

alot. over 500awhp. an upgraded fuel rail is not needed most people do it for the shinny factor. or the an fittings are also nice

You can talk to a lawyer and the better business bureau. Then you can realize the best way to happily mod a car is with your own 2 hands.
