      Quote ARC240-

"I've really wanted to do a built RB20 for a long time, so this year, she's getting a refresher. In the end I'd like to make around 400-500hp, so, for the sake of safely building that kind of power, having peace of mind and fulfilling the want of a built RB20, I decided to haul the engine out and rip it down to the block."

"You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little f*cked up maybe, but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to fuckin' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny? Whaat the f*ck is so funny bout' me, tell me, tell me whats funny..."

Thanks for the positive responses everyone, I'm doing my best to make the build as complete as I possibly can. As Braden mentioned, the forged pistons are being made by CP Pistons (Pankl Industries), I've read on and on about them and I've heard of nothing but good feedback for the most part, so I decided to have them make me a set.

                  Now...the update!

The forged H-beam connecting rods have arrived from their long journey which started out in Australia at Spool Imports. The Spool rods are spoken highly of amongst the Australian RB30 owners who are using them on their engines producing some pretty exceptional numbers, so, with that being said, I gave them a shot. Special thanks to Brad at Spool Imports for his helpfulness and prompt shipping, everything was handled professionally and I'm happy so far. When you buy the rods, they even include the ARP strengthened rod bolts to make everything prim and proper. Rods look absolutely killer, cant wait to see how they perform.

Also in the new parts bin is a set of ARP strengthened head studs for the RB20.

Manny at FTP is currently working his magic on a custom oil pump drive collar for the crankshaft which should be done soon. I've seen a lot of his work and would not second guess the quality of anything he produces.

Slowly but surely, she's coming along. Awaiting pistons, once they arrive, off to the machine shop goes the block. Now...on to the pics !

Alright guys, this thread is long overdue for an update. Haven't done too much, most of the time passed has been spent on painting the engine bay and cleaning everything that needs to go back in. Funds are a little weak right now, still have a few things here and there to buy/do.

Pistons are set to arrive tomorrow (Tuesday), then off to the machine shop goes the block.

So...for part updates...with the powered I'm shooting for, a new clutch is in order, my old one is in excellent condition, but I felt that it would need more. So DrewsGTR had a NICE OS GIKEN Twin Plate clutch for sale and I decided to pick it up, it's in great condition, barely even looks used.

OS GIKEN Twin Plate with Flywheel (Sprung Clutch Disks)

My starter was on it's way out, motor inside was sticking pretty badly, so a couple of weeks ago, I had mine rebuilt. The shop that did the work was incredible, the unit looked brand new as if I had pulled it out of a Nissan box. $120 and it's practically brand new.

Pics of new arrivals coming soon.

Thanks dude, I'm looking forward to finishing the bottom end so I can finally get out there and cruise in the nice weather.

Alright, the next update is here...look at what was waiting for me when I got home  :

The custom RB20DET forgies by CP Pistons, thanks again to Braden @ JNS Imports for getting these to me, well worth the extra little wait.

Since the pistons were in and I now had everything I needed to get the block honed and such, I decided to load everything up and take it down to get bored, machined, balanced, etc.

                        All aboard! Next stop...machine shop!

                        - Crank and rotating assembly are going to be balanced.
                        - Cylinders are going to be bored-out.
                        - Block and head are going to be decked.

Should take about 2 weeks! I can't wait for the day it comes home and I can finally start the assembly, very excited . Should be running by the first weekend of May .

                            I like.

Don't forget to add higher lift valve springs, stronger valve guides (known to crack with higher revs). When it's time to change the cams, just swap the cams out, fit camgears, etc and you have fully built RB20DET engine.

Braden - Indeed sir! I LOVE those pistons. Gorgeous pieces, it's sad that they wont ever be seen after the engine is back together. Keep checking back for progress dude, thanks again for the help .

Skym - Thanks man, glad to see you're enjoying the build! I'm not going to be building the head just yet, I think I'm going to save that for next fall/winter. In the mean time, I'll be gathering all of my parts (valves, guides, springs, retainers, cams, etc.). The engine wont really be pushed hard this summer anyway as it'll still be going through the break-in process so the head should...or should I say "BETTER " hold up until then heheh.
