  • Power Steering Problem

So at the track on Friday, on my last run my steering went heavy and the HICAS light came on and has been on ever since. My power steering fluid level is fine and so is the fuse. What else could it be? Only thing I could think of would be power steering pump, but how would I test that? Also, could it be anything else? r32 gts-t btw

I had my HICAS light come on after a day at the track too. I shut the car off when I got home and it never came back. Steering never got heavy either.
There is a diagnostic in the manual. I'd give that a shot.
    Which track?

Fluid level sensor could be stuck, try tapping on the side of the reservoir and see if that helps. Normally if a pump is going or has gone you'll know by the whining sound it'll make, it's very noticeable.

I don't even think the wires are hooked up as they are hanging around in my engine bay lol. And there's no wires to the cap of the reservoir. It's been like that since I bought it and I haven't had a problem yet.

Hah, facking T9 autospell. My light is on, I was told it could be because of my aftermarket steering wheel
I've been brushing my teeth with jack but it's resulted in terrible amounts of tooth decay.

When I bought the car both wires were broken off with no hicas light on and full steering. A couple months later, the light came on after the first time I turned the wheel while driving, and then days later went heavy due to a blown fuse. Replaced that and still had the problem where everything is normal as I start but after turning the wheels the light comes on. No problems though. Then the other day steering went heavy, no fuse is blown and as far as I can see, nothing has changed

i would replace the cap so the wires are hooked up. thats just a start and see where that goes

I've heard the same thing too. Apparently there is a sensor in the steering hub that lets the hicas know when the steering wheel is centered, if it doesn't get the signal the light comes on. Once the light comes on, hicas is disabled which can cause the car to "crab walk" down the road cause it will lock up in whatever position it is in.

Also if the HICAS system doesn't get proper voltage (low battery or dieing alternator, short etc) the light will come on and steering will get heavy since the speed sensitive steering is also disabled.
