For the last ****ing time.. Your GTR is not crap. It's stock (you even bought some a/m suspension parts). It runs well. What your referring to is purely esthetic (small amount of rust). Your car just needs some TLC. It's not like your running on 4 cyl. with a blown turbo.

Hahaha this was when I first got my skyline and was at canadian tire trying to get it inspected. I walk up to the counter and there's two guys standing behind it. I told them I needed an out of province inspection so they asked what kind of car I had. I said 1989 skyline gts-t. He sort of hesitated for a second and looked at his friend and muttered "Skyline, that's american right?" At that point I pulled up a chair because I knew I would be there for a while lol. I ended up not even being able to get it inspected because the bill of sale I had wasn't notarized by an attorney? I brought it to advanced autoworks and they inspected the car with no questions.

And I don't even know how many of those wannabe gangsters with northface jackets at my highschool have asked if my car has a v8. One kid said "Those things have v8's don't they?" ME: um no inline 6 turbo. HIM: oh, well you're not makin' real horsepower unless you have a v8." I watched him walk over to his rat-bagged civic.

This reminds me on what happend to me a few weeks ago. I just recently got my Skyline (a month ago) and I was at the club, Bananas in Wasaga Beach to be specific and I was chatting to a few randoms that invited my girlfriend and I to sit with them at their table. Everything if fine and good, they're buying us drinks.. were buying them drinks having a GREAT TIME. Finally, The infamous question that either makes or breaks a potential friendship. "So dude, You into cars at all?" I'm like, Yeah.. Ive built a few mostly hondas but have upgraded since. The guy was all wide-eyed and replied "Sweet man, I love Hondas but i'm a total Nissan guy"

So we proceeded to talk about cars and finally he asked me what I drove so I told him a 1992 Nissan Skyline GTS-T. He was floored and said that he is getting one too. But he's getting a 1999 GTR34 from somewhere in the states. He claims he was talking to a few guys from texas and found one in northern New York. At first I played along and he said he's getting it for a wicked deal! $5100.00 USD he's just gotta go pick it up. At this point I have had enough and told him its probably a scam and he should be careful. He got super defensive so I was trying to explain why its not really going to happen (laws, price ect.) He was turning red in the face claiming i'm calling him a liar and my car is a POS and its probably not a real Skyline and that we were no longer allowed to sit with them and so forth. I just walked away laughing and shaking my head and proceeded to where my friends were sitting.

Kinda venting here but that guy is a total douche! This probably won't be the last time either ;/

last nightwe were downtown watching the drunkards and skirts go by on the local "bar district". i was riding shotgun with my friend in his 2003 evo8. two 19 (or so) year old kids came up to us, and heres where my night got interesting...

kid1: "yo, is that your evo?"
me: "no, its my roomies" (point to my friend)
(kid1 starts asking the usual questions and we happily answer while still retaining some mystery as it is an all black, de badged stock "looking" sleeper evo. then kid2 pipes up)

kid2: "yeah, i got a skyline gts-t at home (bar scene, at least they werent drinking and driving right?) putting out 425 horse powa to the wheels"
me: "oh yeah?... whats done to it?"
kid2 : "just a gt30 turbo"
me: "thats it?"
kid2: "yeah"
me: ".....nothing else?" (to which he acknowledged NOTHING ELSE WAS DONE TO IT)
me: "so you running a top mount or just the STOCK side mount exhaust manifold?"
kid2: "just the stock one, i told you its just the turbo upgraded"
me: so you got an external wastegate for the turbo right?"
kid2: " yup"
me: "wow...425...you dyno'd it yet?"

at this point the other kid got my buddy to rev his engine a little... he doesnt do "a little", he bounces it off the limiter. i look down and see that the kid im talking to is a foot away directly behind the exhaust pipe and his jeans are flapping as if he jumped out of a plane. my legs are getting hot from this and i could only imagine how this kid, still standing there feels... finally for the grand finale the engine gets a little too much fuel and decides its going to shoot a 2 foot flame out of the exhaust (keep in mind the kid is a foot away). i almost keeled over from laughter after the kid got toasted, looks up with the most starstruck look in his eyes and says in the most drunken tone ......."cooooooooool" HAHAHA made my night right there!

slammed honda with a roof rack and a bike ontop is = to a chev 1500 with a 800hp muscle car being towed behind it. what im trying to say is, you always tow the faster mode of transportation. mustve been going to track it

I dont own a Skyline, most of you know that. But here is a story when I was looking for one.

Him: So man, are you selling your car?
Me: Ya probably.
Him: What are you getting?
Me: Im trying to get a Skyline GTS, maybe a GTR.
Him: Man dont bother to much hassle, just get a G35 its the same thing.
Me: uhhh, what are you talking about, they are totally different.
Him: Nah man, they are skylines, just rebranded for Canada.

I just walked away from that. I also had a freind telling me I can get a "mint" GTR from Japan for 7k, people know nothing. Then again looking at a picture of my car he just assumed it would run 11's.

actually, it seems like you werent in the "know" on this one. the g35 IS actually a V35 skyline in japan and it was re-branded/ badged and upholstered by infiniti to be sold here in the americas, the only difference is that with the g35/skyline they used the vq series engines so it is actually a cross between a 300zx and a skyline. stock for stock the 300zx z32 is just slightly faster than the g35. given te specs on the r32 gtr and the z32 300zx they are pretty much the same as a g35 also known as a V35 skyline. although te guy you were talking to is wrong as well. they arent the same thing. they have the same name and carry similar features bodywise to the r34. in the longrun the "g35" is pretty much what youd get if nissan took a skyline, a 300zx, and the new vseries motor and mushed them all together. i hate the g35 but i will respect someone who takes the time and effort to revert everything back to the way nissan in JAPAN made the V35 skyline

He's a good guy but my one buddy seems to think that all cars (and particularly mine) only have 1/4 of the potential they do after you've drove them off the lot because they're "used" and obviously bagged. I really don't want to be a douche being he always says it casually but it bugs me sometimes.

Don't worry about it. He's jealous.

Even if you are used to clutches, they're all different and you can stall sporadically even if you get used to them. I randomly stalled the GTR for the first time maybe two months after driving it, I'm still not sure why lol, me and my friend were litterally WTFed laughing.

Haha yeah happened to me after I had my car for a couple months. Stalled it at a light (hadn't even turned green yet was just edging up) and my buddy and I just started laughing and looked like winners next to an rsx full of chicks.

i built my car the way i want it with the power i want it at, a little more than i planned. its my car and i just point haters in new bmmrs or daddy and mommy money bought cars in the direction of my rear window with the stickers, one saying BUILT NOT BOUGHT! yeah im not the fastest nor do i corner the best as newer cars or some of my friends and i am level headed enough not to take on new svt cobras and such, but i built my car and have seen every inch of my car. the sweetest thing for me is to slide into my bucket seat, start my car, and cruise down a nice 4 lane road knowing that i am the reason why my car looks, sounds, performs and gives the way it does, and if you offered me a maserati or ferrari or whatever for free but id have to destroy my r32 i'd say hell no because anyone can buy a car or have one bought for them or drive one but i OWN my car!

I know this is an old thread, but I do like reading it and I'm sure others like to do so as well. Plus, I also need to vent Also, some of this story is about Skylines but a lot of it is also about other cars.

So my friend (non-car guy) and I were talking about cars, since his family is buying a new Mercedes-Benz soon. You know the old question, "If you had X amount of money to spend on a car, what would you get?"

So we set a budget of $50,000. He said he would get a brand-new Mercedes, BMW, or some entry-level luxury car for just under $50K. I then say I would get a Grade 4/B R32 GT-R and mod it myself quite nicely, nothing too fancy so it would still be streetable. He then asks me to show him a picture, so I do and the conversation starts:

Him: "why would you want that? That's so old and ugly."
Me: "well I actually like the look, but the reason I really like this car is because of the straight-six engine coupled with the AWD system, not to mention this car first went into production in 1989 so it was so technologically-advanced for its time."
Him: "How about new cars then, $50K brand new, what would you get?"
Me: "Probably a 2015 Subaru WRX STI" *I then show him a picture*
Him: "That's ugly too."
Me: "Well at the moment I can't think of a car produced today with a longitudinal straight six engine layout and AWD (that's not a new BMW), but I do like the STI."

Here is where the convo gets interesting:

Him: "Well, let's say you go to a fancy restaurant with your wife. If you go there with one of these cars, what will people think of you?! You don't want to be seen in a 'boy racer' car, would you?!"
Me: "LOL you actually care about that? I have NEVER thought about that or taken that into consideration when buying a car, ever."
Him: "Aw god, you're hopeless."
Me: ...

BUT here is what made me , the next day:

Him: "Hey, I heard there's a new Audi TT coming out. What do you think of it?"
Me: *as I bring up a picture* "Well I heard the reviewers said that it drives a lot better than the previous gen."
Him: "What the heck, I don't care about that. As long as it looks good, I don't care how it drives."
Me: "But sports cars are made to be a joy to drive..."
Him: "Well as long as it's comfortable to ride in and doesn't tip over, I don't care how it drives..."

He didn't even bother taking a look at the picture.

Later on...

Him: "So what do you think is one of the best looking cars?"
Me: "Well I really like how the Mazda RX-7 FD looks, the late model with the 99 Spec front bumper and spoiler" *shows picture*
Him: "What the heck, that looks so ghetto..."
Me: " What the heck how? Yeah, it may have pop-up headlights which would clue into the approximate year it was designed, but other than that I think it's timeless and one of the best looking relatively-modern cars out there today."
Him: "Well I was watching gameplay of GTA V and there's a car that looks just like it, and it's always parked around the ghetto neighborhoods in the game."
Me: "That's because the game devs don't know what the hell they're doing! The Mazda RX-7 FD is one of the best looking cars out there!"
Him: I don't like it.

Needless to say, we're probably not going to discuss things related to cars again.

Not everyone is like you... It's not a big deal to run into someone that is confused about cars or simply doesn't know them.

I regularly meet people that are clueless about high voltage controls which I work with, or people who think they've taken 220volt shocks once which was most likely simply a 110volt jolt in reality, or meet people that don't have functional marriages, or don't know how to play counter strike.

Don't worry about differences too much young man. You'll have car buddies who aren't sensible or drinking buddies who aren't personable or married buddies who'll respect you "no stripper" rules.

It's life.
