  • So.. I broke my speedo cable..!how to fix it?

Okay, last time I removed my cluster, I didn't break anything but this time I broke the freaking cheap plastic thing.

So, Can it get fix or I need to buy a new one? And how do you replace it ? is it hard to do?

you can try and glue it in but that is a hit or miss if it will hold.

I am figuring you mean the cheap plastic thing on the end of the speedometer cable.

if you buy a new speedometer cable for ~100 dollars it's about a 30 minute job by the time you get the cluster out and in.

remove cluster, lift speedo cable out of the holder it is in.
remove the three bolts on the firewall where it enters the car
remove the cable from the transmission with a wrench

put the new cable back in the same way old one came out.

        ok

        heres what i did

lathered it in glue on the outside....and then i took some heat shrink tubing

melted it around the glue on the plastic

and put it back on...cost me 8 dollars and it worked fine...

try it...there s post about this in the GTS tech section i posted in there...

I forget how exactly I fixed mine but I think it involved a helper spring out of a 3.5" floppy drive from the cluster to hold that piece in place.

Okay,so I just call Nissan and it's 70 cnd tax in. So I decide to buy a new one, hopefully, the plastic will last longer and won't be as fragile!!

Anyways: Does it exist a DYI with images?? I'm wondering where in the firewall is the speedo cable?

just follow the cable back from the tranny to the firewall, cant miss it. 3 Bolts on the plate holding it there, and there is a guide in the dash that allows it to slide in and out without catching stuff.

And I guess I need to jack the car from the middle in order to be able to work?

its easier if you have the whole car in the air, but u may be able to with just the front up. Jacking a r32 from the middle sounds scary, use proper jacking points.

front cross member or drivers side tow hook gives you plenty of room if your jack does around 17" lift.

So I tried to change it today. WASTED 3 HOURS OF MY TIMES:hit newb:.

How the HECK do you UNBOLT THOSE 3 BOLTS?? Is there a special tools? I can't do it with a tiny screwdriver because I don't have enought force. With a long screwdriver it just wont fit.

And with a ratchet, I don't have enought space to ''wind up''

                          PLEASE HELP!

I used a ratchet wrench, makes it pretty easy. Get the bottom 2 from under the car. The top one is kinda cranky because the brake line gets in the way, I just used my ratchet with an extension. they are all 10mm.

I just realise my socket was a 13/32 ( which mean something like 10.5mm) So I will try my 3/8( which is 10mm) tomorrow. But still I think my problem was more the space and how to work my ratchet.
