just do it
hey if a cop askes you to pop the hood just do it (if you have nothing to hide) b/c if you dont they will get pissed at you and make you go in for a "inspection" and making you pay the cost of the inspection. so if a cop askes you to pop the hood just take a little time and do it to save you some money and if the cop is really bitter he might just keep pulling you over if your "snotty" (in there eyes).

Montreal cops are currently profiling JDM vehicules watch out.
I've been driving for 3 year here with no problems.
Now they are cracking down on honest car enthusiasts with a vengence
in other other words: Illegal and guilty till proven not guilty.
I'm not enjoying spring as I used too.Marc-André

One month of driving the GTR, and FD in mississauga and not one random stop yet! This is compared with up to two a day last summer!
I even had a cop that was stuck at a set of lights behind me behind who actually didn't pull me over!
Anyone else notice that cops are getting more lax with harrasing GTR owners in Mississuaga?

IN ONTARIO:
the police, if they question the legality of your skyline, should refer to the ministry of transportation.
they are the only people qualified to perform road side vehicle inspections.
BUT THEY MIGHT BE CERTIFIED TO INSPECT (OPP USUALLY)
if found to be legally modified, issue an infraction.
if asked to open the hood, simple ask why you are being directed to do so (politely).
THEY MAY JUST WANT TO DROOL!
explain its so you can offer an explination or alternative solution.
other then the suspicion of some legal contraband, there is really no reason for a police officer to inspect under your hood.
he is not a mechanic. but he can request further inspection, and issue a vehicle inspection
the most common police question is
" aren t you suppose to have something on your car saying its right hand drive"
highway traffic act .63.
63. Every vehicle that is equipped with a right hand drive shall, unless it is equipped with a mechanical or electrical signal device as described in subsection 142 (6), have prominently displayed on the rear thereof, in bold face letters of not less than 50 millimetres in height and of a colour which is in contrast to that of the vehicle, the words,
“RIGHT HAND DRIVE VEHICLE”.
R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 63
the remedy is section 142. sub section 6
Requirements for signalling device
(6) A mechanical or electrical signal device shall clearly indicate the intention to turn, shall be visible and understandable during day-time and night-time from the front and from the rear of the vehicle for a distance of 30 metres, and shall be self-illuminated when used at any time from one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise. R.S.O. 1990, c.
so by having functioning turn signals you are okay.
2. "your exhaust is to loud."
answer. 1. who is testing this volume? and with what device?
and 2. show the officer the "jasma certificate" or explain that the exhaust is jasma certified so it is under 120 db
3. legal modifications
what legal modification did you notice before you opened my hood?
seem like profiling ..
be polite, have your documents, be calm.
record the officers badge number name date time location and reason for stop. " routine spot check " is what they will say
happy motoring
