I did a little digging, looks like Desjardins MAY stop accepting new insurance applicants on RHD cars. It's possible later this month as they applied to stop writing new policies for RHD on Aug 20, but weren't immediately stopping new policies as they were waiting to coordinate it with their new fiscal year.

As for RHD being banned, there are currently NO plans to stop new registrations in Ontario.
So yes, it is a false rumour, so no need to get everyone's panties in a knot.

well its kinda an issue i think since i was dropped by 3 different insurance companies over my skylines life till i went with York Fire and Casualty , but right before i put my car on the road (and the fire) they drooped me. so Desjardins was looking like my best shot.
so the government doesn't have to band the cars , but if no one will insure... i doubt there are many people who can invest in a track only car.

There are all sorts of insurance companies that insure RHD cars, but it all depends on the customer's relationship with the company, previous history etc. The companies CAN insure RHD, but it's all a matter of IF they will.
But yes, it is getting harder to insure them.

          yeah i know ,
all im saying is we shouldn't worry about cars being band like Quebec.
but insurance companies not insuring cars will be just as problematic.. as we see is the trend.

Most of our customers arrange their own insurance. If they have any issues with insurance we always do our best to help.

Insurance really needs to change. We need some of the big American auto insurance companies up here. Call the General? :P

Im not sure that will help all that much as many American companies would consider these vehicles high risk as well. Also, most insurance companies in Ontario are active across Canada. In my mind that points to regulation (or lack of it) as the likely cause of our current issues in Ontario right now.

Absolutely, why is it that the same insurance company will insure a RHD in another province but not in Ontario?
There seem to be some political/corporate dealings behind closed doors that are going on. No one will release any reason as to why they won't insure RHD, and by law they don't have to.

Has anyone been insured through facility? What kind of crazy rates do they charge?

I've been told by my insurance company (Pentagon)that I will no longer have coverage as of January 1,2012. The rep also told me that Ontario will not be importing RHD cars after NOV, however who knows whether they are correct or not. Hope this guy was truly just an idiot and the rep i spoke to was too! lol

PS: I've heard of Right Drive, Ill be contacting you this week I need some suspension parts Noobie

Insurance companies were not legally aloud to deny you of insurance, they had to provide it for you . Every company has access to Facility therefore they have to provide you insurance, I know this because when I moved back to Canada I worked for State Farm in Brampton for Abhijit Ghosh . The laws may have changed now though.

Soooo much BS for the following reasons:
                            1. As Daryl said there are 30 days in November not 31.
                            2. The government would not release a major policy change document to private companies weeks before it is to be issued to the public.
                            3. Even if this had been released no broker would have seen it or read the letter to you over the phone.

Thanks to the mods for banning an obvious troll

by the looks of it, this situation seems to be getting much worse. we need to take a stand and really threaten these companies with all our policies and let senior underwriting start to recognize losses. the sad part is that we make up a small majority of their business so they couldnt seem to care less whether they had us as customers or not. i assume that if you're currently insured, you will be most likely dropped by the renewal date like most people. i think its at that tipping point where if we dont take a stand now, it will be past that point of no return.
i wish there was a smaller sister insurance company that was geared towards RHD cars and accepted policies on LHD cars while sourcing out the bigger "bundled" policies to the big companies. sadly that seems to be nearly impossible in toronto.

                              protest?!

Speakin of American companies, I'm insured in Ontario under Haggerty, which is big in the US for specialized collector cars. I have a decent driving record and another car for DD duty. Full coverage for both my NSX and GTR is under $1K.
