  • IVOAC Targa Newfoundland Project

Mikes at it again doing something huge for the RHD community8)

    This is posted from IVOAC.

Well, here's the secret! IVOAC plans to challenge the Targa Newfoundland race in September 2008 www.targanewfoundland.com

What's more, we are not only challenging the Targa Newfoundland, which is a 2,200KM rally style race on the roads of Newfoundland in the targa class, we're just crazy enough to drive our race car there and back from Vancouver - over 5,000KM each way!!!

It's time to prove to the public that imported vehicles are a force to be reckoned with!!! Do you know anybody else fool enough to trust a 15 year old fully street legal race car to drive them to the opposite coast of North America, run a greuling race and then get them back again?

This is intended as a major public relations event for IVOAC to grab the public's attention - Targa is very pleased to have us, and the media is already showing a lot of interest at this early stage!

The race car is my own personal 1989 R32 Skyline GT-R and will in fact remain my personal daily driver through as much of the build up as possible too (we're doing this on a shoestring, and I think the car can take it!).

The car currently sports a 1996 R33 V Spec RB26DETT motor and Brembo brakes, with R32 Nismo turbos and an assortment of other minor bolt ons. With the addition of fuel injectors and a tune, it can make well over 500 horsepower on pump gas - perhaps as much as 600HP if we get it all right while still maintaining driveability and fuel economy!

We have contacted several potential major sponsors, but we can't count on anybody outside our community - anybody that thinks they know a good sponsor, let them know about the project!

We will beg, borrow, or barter for anything that can help this project along - we are on a shoestring, and used parts are just fine, as long as they work (or can be fixed).

Once again, this event is to raise the profile of our group and thrust us into the public spotlight! The drive out will have scheduled events at every stop to truly bring us together all the way across the country.

Together, we can make this some thing great for imports in general, any and all help is needed and much appreciated!

As soon as we are better organised, there will be a seperate page for the project.

This project is rolling right along, we have several sponsors right now, including Brave Auto International in Japan as one of the major ones.

Paint and body / decals will be done soon so we can get it looking like a race car, then we'll worry about a cage and safety equipment.

If anybody knows a good Vancouver area paint and body shop that either wants to sponsor / give us a deal, it would be great.

Right now, our immediate wants list would be the following items:

Set of 600cc plus injectors (used perfectly fine)
Two piece R33 Brembo rotors and racing pads
                    2X RB20DET/RB25DET/Z32 MAFS
                    RB26 Throttle body gasket set

Doantions or cheap or barter for stock RB26 parts are all good.

Do you have a cage builder? I know of one of the better builders in the lower mainland. PM me for his info. He has done many rally cages and knows the rules very well. He lives in New West but does most of his work in Whonnick.
He has done 2 of my cages, both have been tested :hit_head: and both cars were saved because of the cage.

would be so freaking amazingly epic if this attracted so much attention that the government dropped the 15year old rule.....

I would buy an R34 tomorrow and go into debt for sure

But ultimatley i just want this to change peoples stupid opinion on RHD cars.....i am behind you 100000000%
