Sure this coalition is perfectly legal, and not the first in Canadian history. The problem is honestly from the opposition. Coalition governments have worked elsewhere in the world because the opposition parties were upfront and honest with the voting public. I clearly remember the Liberals saying a coalition with the NDP is not going to happen. I also remember NDP MP's calling out treason to the Bloc only a couple years ago. And since when is it right that we have retired former PM's, party leaders and finance ministers working on this coalition. They are no longer elected members of parliment. Add to this, a phone call recently made public, with Jack layton describing a coalition between parties that was in the works months before the election. Do you think the results of the last election would be the same if this coalition had been made public at that time? I don't know, maybe, but either way this would have been way less messy.

Everything there is all legal though and leads back to that in the end.

I don't involve myself in politics, and i surely have not followed who said what or who planned what.
When they tell me I can vote I do, if they want me to vote more often then so be it.

Fair enough. Your probably better off for not following every little thing in politics anyways. You'll live longer as a result. I'm way to frustrated right now over this.

I suppose all we can do is wait and see what the Gov. Gen. decides.

Since when has politics ever been about the country... maybe when the pioneers came over...

Since then it's simply been about politicians lining the pockets of their cabinetry and appealing to the greed of the rest of the country...

          Human nature.

The conservatives are at least trying to pay off the debt and get rid of the hole the liberals keep digging without fail everytime they're elected.

This thread is nice to see... younger people engaged in politics... all we need to do now is make make sure you vote!... I saw a couple posters who say voting doesn't matter. People died and are dying now so you can excercise that right. And you say your voice isn't heard? just recently younger voters voted on Facebook to block a revision to the graduated license here in Ontario.. guess what the Preimier actually listened and back down... why? even though they only voted on facebook it exposed a massive pool of voters who might move to vote against him in the future (and for a very long time since younger people will see many more elections), once you show you have a large group thats willing to take action politicians will listen.

as for the coalition farce... they were planning this even before the election... so my question is why didn't they include this in their party platforms when they campaigned if they are speaking for the "majority" of canadians. (amazing that that the supporters are for the confidence vote but scared to death of a re-election)

speaking for the majority also means putting in place a person as the PM that over 60% of the population objected too.... that makes perfect sense as well when they claim they are representing the majority....

last point... teaming up with the BLOC to pass a bill on a vote already created is slightly different than including the BLOC as the running party of the nation.

and i dont remember Harper needing to pay out 400 million plus to get them to team up...

people say Harper has an ego and he's out to create a legacy and to do that he needs power... one question sooooo what? last time i check to create a legacy in which he is looking for Canada as a whole needs to do well, better than well we need to be #1 and recognized as #1 around the world (we are #1 in terms of lowest debt to capita ratio right now which is the main reason we haven't been hit as hard as everyone else yet in the economy if you look at the numbers auto sales here actually grew :P)... so i ask whats wrong with that?

but ok ill stop there... as you can tell... you can see who i voted for

At least the Governor General did the right thing with the suspension of Parliament. It will give frayed tempers a chance to mellow, egos to back off and perhaps the best interests of Canadians will be taken into account.

If that means another election, so be it.

The liberals have based their legacy on the power they held for years on end. While their legacy isn't exactly impressive, it's still a legacy none the less. I think after the last sponsorship scandal and liberal kickbacks, the guys pulling dions strings (chretian, martin, etc) want to get back at the conservatives.

Regardless, young people... engaging in politics... how old are you Neal being a Team Toyo guy, I'm sure I've seen you out at CSCS?

I'm the drift co-ordinator for CSCS....

very true. I am actually surprised it remains as civil as it has. With the exception of a couple posts (now removed) everyone kept it clean on what can be a pretty touchy subject across Canada. Right now there is more talk of Western seperation than I can ever remember. Luckly such extreme veiws are amongst the few.

The PM will come to parliment at the end of January with a new budget and I'm sure that at least part of the coalition will bend to support it. If not a divided Country we shall be (at least as far as politics is concerned).

I'd still like to hear more from the Quebecers out there!

Perhaps it's just me but I don't see what there is to gain from separation. I'm certainly not much of a politics buff as some people are.

You're right though, this is a pretty touchy subject and it's a good call to point it out because I'm sure there are a few people watching this thread who haven't posted because it seems to be liberal biased. But I'd like to invite anyone who has an opinion just like the NDP guy to post.

I mean you'll vote for who you want to but it never hurts to educate yourself on the issues.

my policy on discussions is to refrain from talking about 3 subjects...

                                Sex Lives
                                Religion
                                Politics

Always seems to bring up extreme controversy and makes friends enemies...

On these matters i usually tend to keep my thoughts to myself unless i really disagree...

On This matter at hand, i completely disagree with the coalition government, and think that they should wait for a budget to come through before taking such drastic action, especially this close to Christmas...

But on the other hand being a person that makes an above average income, and works hard for every cent, i do not look in favor of the NDP who simply decides to tax the middle class even more...when the burden of tax already falls on the middle class...the poor cant afford tax, the rich dont care, and the middle class get Fu-ck-ed

And personally i think Jack Layton is a communist....lol j/k...but serisouly you will never catch me dead voting for the NDP...

And with the Liberals, time and time again it seems the West gets screwed by them, and we are seriously the largest asset to Canada's economy...dont believe me, if it werent for us right now, where would we be....

I will keep voting Conservative untill something makes me do otherwise...I am not a huge Stephen Harper fan, but i would rather vote for him then Dion...and to have him come into power without and election would doom Canada...

He would be a french version of George Bush....

Now this is my opinion...dont flame me...i stated above i hate talking about this stuff, but since people were asking for opinions i voiced mine
