falcon you are making the i-r's out to be a pretty tame vehicle. "I would put it close to or a bit less than a gts-t"

gti-r's are 5.3 0-60 and gt-rs were rated at 5.2. And on the tsukuba circuit a stock i-r was one second slower than the gt-r. They are definitley alot quicker than a a gts-t.

      I like the GTi-R.

Although trying to get to starter motor on a stockish GTi-R is interesting. Have to remove the parts on top of motor.

Only 2 flaws the gti-r has is understeer with stock susp and the stock intercooler is ****

          They're very nice.

I wouldn't get a JDM vehicle for a first car though. They're expensive to fix, and hard to get parts for = potential long downtimes.

if you want a turbo AWD first car, buy a DSM. They're excellent starter vehicles and you can get decent ones for $2000. Put snow tires on them and you'll outrun anything on the road in the snow. Decent GTiR's start at around $6000-$7000 and go up from there. I'd rather have that extra cash in the bank if it was for a first car.

Or, if you /really/ wanted to spend $7k+, you can buy a DSM that probably goes bottom 11's and comes with a trailer full of spare parts.

Yeah, they break, but for the most part they're easy to work on, if you keep the power near "stock" they're reliable (basically keep the stock turbocharger on it, upgrade everything else if you want) , and they're dirt cheap to fix, especially stuff like brakes and suspension components.

Having actually driven a few unlike anyone else here, that is what I would compare them to. They aren't that fast stock.

its actually on par with my GTS-4. Bone stock. My friend and I both have 1 and the performance is nearly identical other then the GTi-R had FWD tendencies, and the GTS-4 had RWD tendencies.

              Great first car.

For sure I would agree. They have power, but just like a lot of GTR's out there... unmodified they are super tame. Take for instance half of the GTR's that dynoed at the Ztune dyno day underproduced by a lot.

try and be different. if you get a gti-r try and import a LHD. i can almost promise you, that you will have the only LHD gti-r in canada, or maybe even north america.
thats what i wanted to do, but now i want a gtr.

if you are interested in a LHD gti-r , they are all over europe under the name nissan sunny gti-r.
i used to have one back in greece. man, when it was new, it used to be god there, even now, many fast gti-r's there.
i remember the greek police had a bunch of them, fully marked cop cars. lol.

they are a little hard to find, but most of them are in nice shape.
at least body and interior. there is 1960's cars in greece with no rust, they just dont rust, maybe some color fading but not for a 15 year old car.

Been rocking the GTi-R for a few months now. Going from a 500hp GTR to the 230hp GTi-R, I can say the Pulsar is a lot more fun on the street. Not a great car in the snow on summer tires, but now that I have the winters on, it's a blast!! It was a WRC homolagation car after all.

i noticed on canadaGTiR that there was a wingnut that bought one, figured it was you. How about an in depth review, is it a sensible daily driver? Really interested in one come spring.

Probably going to get a RHD...sensible and cheaper (easier to find too).

OT, but damn, gas is cheap nowadays! 66.9 a liter here!

One big issue with daily driving a GTiR is the gearing, and the resulting fuel economy you get.

120km/h = crusing at 4500RPM and 5PSI.. my GTR uses much less fuel than the gtir does, especially on the highway. If you don't have ANY 401 driving to do on a regular basis then I'd go for it but they're certainly not a road trip car.
